H o m e c o m 91 In January and February Putnam county experienced one of its most violent snow storms in history. Snow combined with whirling winds whipped up drifts that in some areas were as high as 25 feet. Blizzard-like conditions prevailed causing school affiliations to be cancelled. In total, Continental Schools were called off for 13 days because of the weather. Here we have tried to capture some of the appalling effects of the disaster. Photographs, compliments of Shirley Etter and Daphna McKibben. 92 93 Editor - Lynn Kimmel Editor - Brenda Henry Editor - Tammy Huff To the students at Continental High School, the arrival of the annual in the fall is perhaps the most important event during the school year. The ’77 PIRATE got off to a real good start in August by selling advertisements. The staff did a real good job and we brought in around twenty-four hundred dollars. This year the ’77 PIRATE Staff did some money making projects. We had a cake raffle, sold Pirate notepads, plastic yearbook covers sales, subscription sales, and PIRATE booster sales. The Editors and the 77 PIRATE Staff decided to do something different with the yearbook. This is the first year there has ever been a theme carried throughout the entire book. We also divided the book into three seasons. We have had a wonderful year and are proud of this book and the Staff. 94 LEFT TO RIGHT: Kelly Gilbert, Jerry Mansfield. Without the help of all sorts of people it would not have been possible. We owe a very special thank-you to Mrs. Connie Konst, our advisor. We would also like to mention Powell Studios, Larry Mansfield, and our staff photographers, Robin Rau, Jerry Mansfield, and Mary Hurst. Also thanks to Barb Britsch for all the copy write-ups she did for us. This year we have tried to do something different and use a music theme throughout the book, we are all very proud of it and hope you have enjoyed it.
