I xx J 11 wr v T x ltlxl De artu re With San Diego quickly becoming a speck in our rear view mirror, we can all expect to be overtaken with a WESTPAC frame of mind. Slowly but surely, conscious thought will take the jump across the International Date Line. The price of a gallon of gas is quickly becoming less important than the exchange rate of dollars to pesos. A road map of San Diego is infinitely less vital to us now than a guide to Waikiki Beach, and any visions we may have had of monkeys at the San Diego Zoo are bound to be secondary to the monkeys at the Pearl City Tavern, or pieces of them skewered on barbecue sticks on Magsaysay. The directions on how to get to Mom's in Pacific Beach can wait to be told a lot later than the directions to Mom's in Clongapo. The craving for a midnight snack at Jack-in-the-Box will be replaced by the urge for midrats. lt's a slow and steady metamor- phosis we'll be undergoing. Of course there may still be a few of us who hang on to thoughts of San Diego a little longer, no thoughts of chili and cheese omelettes at the Night and Day Cafe, a Saturday afternoon in Balboa Park, or a vision of Ted Leitner doing the evening sports. However, it won't be long before we'lI all be mumbling to ourselves seemingly impossible to pronounce words in Tagalog as we walk down the passageways. The thinking behind Einstein's Theory of Relativity will pale when compared to the brain racking that will go on to discover a quick and effective way of determining the real girls from the almost real girls of Singapore. Some of us may be grumpy and unyielding to such progressive thinking at this point. With not even a first letter written home, it may be a little premature to inventory the loose pesos left over from last cruise. But time will once again do its trick as humanity's Florence Nightingale, and by the time we get to the land of San Miguel, we'lI be once again living in the present. So here's a toast to the Coronado bridge, the Char- gers, Hagaan Das ice cream, and bus route number nine. It has been great having you around, good luck, Merry Christmas, and see you again. As for now, l'Il have to dig out that stereo guide, make some cruise resolutions. and start hunting for all those loose pesos left over from last cruise.
