Captain Brooks, a Birmingham, Alabama native, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in June i957 and was designated a naval aviator in February l959. As a naval aviator he has accumulated more than 4,500 hours and 990 carrier landings in F-8 and F-4 fighter aircraft. Assignments in a variety of fighter squadrons included command of Fighter Squadron 5I from Septem- ber i973 to January I975 and Fighter Squadron l2I, the Pacific Fleet F-4 Readiness Squadron, from March I976 through March I977. He served as Head, Aviation Com- mander Assignment Branch, Bureau of Naval Personnel from April l977 through May I978. Following completion of Chief of Naval Operations Senior Officers' Ship Ma- terial Readiness Training, ldaho Falls, ldaho, he served as Commanding Officer of the Fleet Replenishment Oil- er. USS Kansas City CAOR-SD from January I979 through June I98O. Captain Brooks assumed command of USS Constellation CCV-643 on April 28, I98I following assign- ment as Force Readiness Officer, Staff, Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. Captain Brooks received his degree in Aeronautical Engineering from U.S. Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California and subsequently served as Head. Aircraft System Branch and as a Production Test Pilot with Bureau of Naval Weapons, representative, McDon- nell Aircraft Corporation, St. Louis, Missouri. He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia. Captain Brooks was selected for flag rank in De- cember I98I. He is married to the former Dolores Kath- erine Gober of Birmingham. Alabama. He and Lorrie reside with their daughters, Amy and Allison, in quar- ters at Naval Air Station, North Island.
