Proverbs 10. The end of our high school days is fast approaching; however, without that good beginning we could not have come to this climax with the assurance that our graduation is not a good end, but another good beginning. As sophomores, our official date of organization was October 20, 1961. Patricia Horn was elected president; John Jones, vice-president; Mary Phipps, secretary; and Irma Fortes, treasurer. With the approaching holiday season, we started knocking on doors selling fruitcakes. A worthy cause? Certainly. With money in the class treasury from our sales, we then began to empty our own pockets for our first class dues, voted into being at the class meeting in March, 1962. For the annual Sophomore Hop the Fellowship House was transformed into the Peppermint Lounge. Among the twisters were the king and queen, William Lightkep and Barbara Ingles. A change of government in the junior year was effected by the election of James Bruno as president,RosalynRobinson as vice-president, Mary Phipps secretary and Irma Fortes, treasurer. There was ever the demand for more and more funds and the sale of Christmas cards and decorations and later of pretzels again tested the persuasive powers of the class members. Always a highlight in the history of any class is the arrival of class rings. With bated breath the juniors awaited February 21, 1963. It no longer mattered who had wanted round, square or oval rings--everyone was satisfied. Then, miraculously, we were seniors, and the election of class officers produced yet another change, with Mary Phipps, president; Rosalyn Robinson, vice-president; Rita Hill, secretary; and Irma Fortes, treasurer. The major project for the seniors was announced at the first class meeting of the 1963-64 season--a magazine sale from which the class realized a handsome profit of $593.80. The thrill of winning the Class C State Basketball Championship for the first time in the history of the school will long be remembered. The Fabulous Five” certainly proved that they are the greatest. At the testimonial dinner of April 28, 1964, players, coaches and supporters of the team were honored. Achieving yet another success were the dramatists of the class, who demonstrated their acting ability in THE DARK HOUSE, a mystery-comedy directed by Mr. David Sera. (The butler didn't do it, as Thomas Bulatewicz can well testify.) Major roles were portrayed by Elaine Heffentreyer, Mary Carlin, Char la Ayres, David Earl, and David Rakowski. The senior prom, held at Andorra Springs Country ClubonMay 22, 1964, had as its theme candlelight and pink champagne. Its success resulted from the careful planning of the prom committee, organized in November. To help finance this long awaited event, a Valentine Dance had been held at the Fellowship House on February 15, 1964. The post-prom party, sponsored by the P. T. A. was also held at the country club. Very soon now, graduation, climax of the high school years, will end one stage our lives, only to thrust us into another. It is not a stopping place, but a launching pad into the future. In a tense world the class motto takes on added significance: In the game of life, there is no time out. 78 JJatrons Miss Emily Y.
