Although the Bears' diamond season was not too successful, they had a defiant fighting spirit and provided difficult opposition for the teams in the Ches-Mont circuit. Pitching was the Bruins' biggest problem. The hurling chores were equally distributed among Mike Pettine, Jimmy Williams, and Jim Griffin. Two sopho- mores and a senior co-captain excelled in the hitting department. Catcher, Chuck Sithens, who took the batting championship with an average of 38-i, and .lim Williams were the outstanding tenth graders, while shortstop, Buff llonkoski, hit at a clip of 323. The Golden Bears' final record was an unimpressive 3-12 slate. However, two of the wins came against PSD in which the Grizzlies won by gigantic scores. 'l'heir other win came over Bridgeport by a margin of -4-3, Although the Bruins lost, they gave Spring-Ford, West Chester, and Conestoga terrific battles, and against Pottstown played their best ball games of the year. ,ZF 5 . 2 - - 2 Y Lew follows through! 5 ! t i .,..-n- ' 1 ,.
