CLASS HISTURY Time Marches On' Can it be true that we have completed three years so quickly? Those years now precious memories to be laid among our treasures have passed as the autumn leaves or the winter snow But let us pause for a moment in this mad rush of time and turning back the years flash the history of this class of l9D6 on the screen of our memory The lights are dimmed the picture begins The year is l953 On a September afternoon we have our first official class meeting We learn that Miss Blake and Mrs Friedeborn are to serve as our class advisors ln the election of class ofllcers Jack Harley is given the honor of president and Jacqueline Douglass is voted as his capable vlce president To Lois Whip is given the secretaryshlp and on James Keenan is bestowed the honor of keeping the accounts Also at this meeting the projects for the year including the sale of fruit cakes Mothers Day cakes and various articles are discussed and carefully outlined Many of our class enter their classrooms to distinguish themselves in scholarship Many seek paths to fame in athletics others in debating music or other activities The Hrst dance of the year is given by the Tri Hi Y for the purpose of initiating the newly inducted members What a group of sad looking girls they are dan ing around in night govvns mens snowboots sizes too big and bathing caps Shaving cream covers their faces and of all things each is dancing with a man s umbrella Already it is May and we are working vigorously to make tonights sophomore dance Sophisticated Swing a success The gym looks magnificent with the rose and ivy covered arbor and the beautifully decorated throne for the queen and her court After a delightful dance we all go home happy and contented At the close of school in June we learn that Mrs Friede born is resigning from the faculty of Conshohocken High School We think back through the year of the helpful leadership that she gave us and all regret her leaving Time Marches On' lt is now 1954 Our faces have changed but little yet our actions are different No longer are we the downtrodden sophomores No' We are the smooth sophisticated Juniors We have but one advisor Miss Blake who alone is taking on the challenging projects and class work In our first meeting we elect oflicers Our Junior Class presidency is given to Willlam Jackson Jac quelme Douglass is re elected to the vice presidency Ruth Heist is given the secretarial duties and David Goshaw is assigned as our treasurer Our nrst Junior project is the selling of Christmas cards The poor underclassmen cannot resist our terrific sales talks and they are very helpful in aiding us to achieve success To raise additional money the class decides to enter two floats in the Halloween parade and we begin thinking of themes to make outstandingly different floats Someone sug gests a hunting scene and we all agree upon it and set to work We want something different and ths is it every thing from bears to pheasants fstulled of coursel There are even hunters with shotguns and all their paraphernalia For our second float we decorate a 1929 Ford with our school colors blue and gold pennants and teddy bears Some girls dressed as football players run about the car passing throwing and even kicking a football It seems like endless work to decorate but we succeed in winning two prizes Fmally the day comes for all of us to walk around the halls with our left hands extended showing everyone our newly received class. rings We waited eleven years for them and now we just cannot help talking about how beautiful they are Again Time Marches On' We have come to the final reel of Memoirs Two years have passed and we see ourselves as suave seniors William Jackson Jacqueline Douglass and Ruth Heist are to continue to serve as president vice president and secretary respectively Frank DiCiurcio is elected to take over the duties of treasurer Early in September the Blue and Gold Magazine taff decides to make a change to publish a newspaper instead of a magazine All eagerly await the hrst edition of the newspaper and when it hnally arrives everyone comments on the magnihcent Job the staff did Time seems to be flying lt is March and we are planning our trip to Washington However first we must concentrate on the senior play and the rehearsals The date of the plav is set for April 28 How close that seems to be and all th work has Just begun Fmally March Z6 rolls around and we can t wait to reach Washington We are having so much fun on the buses that we don t realize vve are entermg the famous city so soon The three days during which we visited the White House the Library of Congress and the Washington Monument pass so quickly that we und ourselves making a return trip on the buses surprisingly soon Although this memorable trip is ever groups of seniors gather together Now we are looking forward to the senior play our last school project The night of April Z8 finally arrives and we find ourselves sitting in a well ulled auditorium The cast does a wonderful job and the play is a tremendous success On May 73 the Athletic Department holds a banquet The food rs delicious but everyone eagerly awaits the pre sentation of the trophies They are beatiful and the surprised expressions on the faces of the recipients make all of us feel happy for them Anxiously on the night of May 25 we arrive at the Senior Prom The theme Dutch Polenarze seems perfect for that beautiful star studded night After the prom we go to our post prom party which is held at the Valley Forge Hotel The Class Day program June l is made possible by the many class talents The Baccalaureate Services are held June 5 Yes we have reached our journeys end We number among us class and student council officers club leaders able editors heroes of athletic endeavor veterans of music accomplishments and ever so many other notables But now that the day of parting has almost arrived we are not so eager to leave our home of six years We gather in t e halls to talk of the past We laugh at happy memories ut it rs not for us to linger No it is decreed that our paths must part Fmally we view the last moments of June caps growns awards and diplomas The picture fades t e lights again glow brightly We have written finis to our play and thus the members of the l956 class pass from t e doors of Conshohocken High School and their history be comes the history of their Alma Mater
