1 Burning out, Fading Away Shape up or ship out! The fitness craze swept through America, and Conroe High jumped right into the middle of things. Flab- by thighs and roily tummies were becoming things of the past. The jump ropes and sweatsuits were pulled out of the closet and work-out schedules were planned. Girls started their diets with the frame of mind that thin is in, while the refrigerators and pantries were lock- ed and the will power set in. The guys of Conroe High spent hours working-out, in order to achieve the chic, masculine build so desired by the female race. Everyone ran the pounds off, and the students of CHS began to achieve what they ' d wanted all along, the perfect body. Racquetball was a favorite way of staying in shape. It was good exercise and a lot of fun. Dancing was used to tone the muscles of many, especially the girls. The fitness scene helped students develope a good mental attitude about themselves and others, as they strove for the perfect body. The students of Conroe High decided to keep a good thing going and showed this in their hard-work and determination. STUDENTS soothe their tired muscles after a workout. - ' = sparking the Spirit It might be a bit wild, but if it ' s all in spirit, why not? It ' s 8:50; Class be Quiet! Monday you have reports due (that you were supposed to be working on in class). ' 8:59; Mrs. Svenson, we have to leave now! When does the bell ring 905- We better win the spirit stick this week or I will be mad! Who brought the sign to schooP ' 913- Will you put my books in your locker. What time does your watch say. Mine isn ' t set by the bell. . . . rring ... Hurry up, I want to sit in the front! Hey Susan, did you ever get that egg out of your hair I heard a truckload of people got pulled over for throwin eggs! It sure is hot in here, let ' s try to get down on the floor. Did you bring another shirt to change into. Look how big their sign is- now why didn ' t we think of that. After the band finished playing The Star Spangled Banner shrieks and shrills uproared from the stands as the classes strove for the in- evitable symbol of greatness: the spirit stick. This is the scene once a week every Friday morning as the students await the exciting pep rallies. Conroe High ' s spirit could not have continued without them. Some of the other schools in this area were affected by the new Texas State Ruling, but Conroe was not going to surrender their pep rallies. Students who were asked their opinion of the pep rallies responded Competition for the spirit stick is a valid part of CHS pep rallies because the rivalry between the classes gets the people pepped up, and therefore the overall energy level is increased. —Jay English; I think the pep rallies are too class-oriented. — Kim Green; It ' s like I always say ... anything to get out of class! — Marc Dunaway; Pep rallies are great! They really pull the school together, it ' s one of the things about CHS that I ' ll always remember ' - Myriam Klein. No matter what the answers were it was obvious that Conroe ' s pep rallies were thought by everyone to be un ique. Each one added pages to the book of Conroe en- thusiasm and individuality. These pages have helped make our high school the one and only to be proud of SENIORS Tom Whaley, Scott Carlisle, Justin Jordan, Mike Eddings. Tiffany Kinnamon and Charlie Russel participate at a pep rally. SUSAN WILSON, Missy Yoakley, Julie Reeves and other GiGi ' s, anxiously await their performance.
