Peak of the Heat Last May. the 6th period bell rang and three months of ab- solute freedom greeted students with a hot bang. Suddenly we had an excess of time on our hands and freedom in our hearts to make the summer of ' 83 unforgettable. With the dawning of the first day of summer, most of us took advantage of not hav- ing to get up early. Oh what a feeling! As the day progressed we slowly came to life and started planning our summer excitement. The intense summer heat which cranked the temperature up to the near lOO ' s hurled our summer fun into motion. We spent countless days on Lake Conroe skimming across the water on skis and with our sails filled with the hot summer gusts of wind. When we could, we escaped to the beach for a day in the sun. Whether it was jobs, vacations, or just goofing around we always made it fun. Throughout the summer we miraculously survived ail of the wild parties, dreaded jobs, and most of all, the fury of hurricane Alicia, which left many of us without electricity for days. As the summer came to a screeching halt, we were all sorry to see it go. Although we knew our freedom would be limited by the upcoming school year, we also looked forward to being reunited with CHS and all our friends and faculty. Weary-eyed and halt asleep we awoke to the forgotten sound of the alarm clock. The first day of school was upon us, and before it had ended we had all but relived the exciting times we had d uring the Peak of the Heat. FELICIA MYERS and Susan Stroope relax for a day in the sun. 12 • Summer
