CC 99 Catch it tif you canj at Conroe High School. during the week before the biggest game of the season, the fans and players were preparing to play the McCullough Highlanders. Arch rivals since the school began participating in Varsity sportsg McCullough had never beaten Conroe in football, they had never even had a chance. This year was different. because McCullough for once had a shot at winning, As the day of the game arrived, spirits were up and the Tigers were ready. But McCullough was ready too, and at the end of the game McCullough was the victor. 21-17. However, the disappointment of the loss didn't last long because it was discovered that the Highlanders had an ineligi- ble player which caused the officials to name Conroe as District Champs. This was not the end. only the beginning of an involved con- troversy. McCullough decided to go to the Federal Courts. First, the player and his Lawyer asked for a restraining order that would take the title away from Conroe until a higher court could hear their case. The day before the game, a hearing in Houston ruled that the Mc- Cullough player was, indeed eligible to play. This put a damper on Conroe's win fever , but the town still held a vibrant and emotional pep rally which let the Tigers know that to them Buddy and his boys were still number one, McCullough paid no heed to the warning on Conroe's run through sign, in Fever BOYS only 22 ' Conroe vs. MCC Clippings from local newspapers kept the fans posted on the big game. Industrial Arts Club President Tim Truitt awards Freshman class president David White the spirit chain.

A Soft ame Hard ame With a little help from the cheerleaders, the officials make an important decision. .is l r x ai.. X, J, . 4 .K N -if Q li Members of the Junior class take a rest on the sideline. Jackie Giddcns gives the Senior Girls a little encouragement. As November 7th rolled around, the 4th annual Powder Puff game hit the field. Despite its name, the game was a rough ordeal. Junior and Senior girls battled for possession of the victory, while the male sex attempted their hand at the basics of cheerleading, twirling, and everything in between. With good sportsmanship the name of the game, the Juniors broke the standing tradition of a senior win by beating the opponent 14-0. Not all was lost, the climatic victory for the Juniors was highlighted with the girls treating their dates to a fun-filled evening out. Powder Puff 2l
