While Johe- cafe 3 away .. A CA i E i l Classroom antics played a major role in the daily activities at Conroe High. The 1980-81 school year found a new breed of teachers in force, as brass and brawn became vital attributes! Teachers battled bubble-blowers and note passers Cwhile still present in the roomj, but the real action began when the cat was away. A typical school week followed a schedule of variety, as the pace accelerated from the slow creep of Monday mornings to the mad rush of Friday afternoons. These moods varied from one day to the next, and were reflected in the classroom as well as in the halls. All hope for perfect conduct was not lost, however, as the end of each semester loomed ominously in the minds of many class clowns. Report card time was met with frazzled nerves by both frustrated stu- dents and bone-weary teachers. While sig- nalling the end of one six-week battle, it marked the beginning of the next as well. 20 0 Activities Mrs. Traylor innocently steps into the hall while class participates in Destruction Derby. Chris Cromwell hides from the teacher behind his bubble-gum. ll If '5 .ri fig, i W! If I 1 J Q K.

22 - Activities Comfortably dressed in western wear, Larry Rogers and Ross Williams confirm the general clothing trend for guys. From overalls to designer baggies, our Trend Setters Atte ntion-getter v 1980-81 school year encountered a large variety of apparel. The disco look of past years gave way to a new and fashionable line of western wear for guys and girls, while calf-length dresses took a back seat to leggier slit skirts. This was the year of a western boom, with the movie, Urban Cowboy, setting the trend. The silver screen glittered with comedy flicks and popular remakes of old favorites, and we flocked to the theaters for weekend entertainment. Changes evolved on the national level as well, and 1981 saw the inauguration of our new president, Ronald Reagan. The issue concerning the hostage crisis and the deaths of such famous figures as Steve McQueen, .lohn Lennon, and Colonel Sanders were met with nationwide disap- pointment. Despite the serious upsets, stu- dent life at Conroe High remained content with its wild weekends and rigorous routine. Not necessarily for dirty work, overalls are proven by Deann Buckalew to be popular school wear as well.
