This year she has taught only Latin and English. ,rl Her dynamic personality, her sincere friendliness, and her radiating sweetness have provided for her a warm spot in the hearts of all. Miss Moon has done much for our school, both academically and culturally. She is a speaker of well-known repute. Although Miss Moon's interests in life are varied, her first love, we know, is Latin and the study of Ancient Rome. To this Latin scholar, this fascinating teacher, and this intellectual genius, we, the members of the I 948 Flare Staff, sincerely dedicate this book. ew' B ' , efehxwbjgtfwwewiftbfaffl .. .le-'54 A ' if -dd ,Q - sf,'I7lZLve5f7' 'G ' F C Grder of the Book C mpus Views H Admmu Nl Ckxsses W Actuomes V Sports VI Features VN Snaps VIN Pads I 1 a ' ' 'stration : V . While the T ig e r s failed to win the District Championship, they did have a fairly successful season. They won 7 and lost 3 games for the season. The only District game lost by the Tigers was to the Lufkin Panthers. The Tigers opened the season on September 1Zth in Temple against a very fine Team. The Tigers lost Z0-6. The Conroe touchdown was scored on a pass from B alla rd to Dean. This Temple Team went on to win their District but was not eligible. On September 19th the Tigers opened their Home season against the Sam Houston Tigers of Houston. The Tigers won 14-0. Both Conroe touchdowns were s co r ed by Hummel and Dean kicked both extra points. ' The North Dallas Bull-Dogs o f Dallas were our next opponents on October 3rd, After avery hard-fought game the Tigers emerged the winner by a score of 6-0. Dean scored the touchdown onan end-around. The Tiger line played a fine game to hold the Dalla s Team in check. This fine Dallas Team ended the season tied for the championship of their district. On October 19th the Tigers played the strong St. Thomas Team in Houston. The Tigers played one of their best games of the year to defe at St. Thomas 19-12. Touchdowns were scored by Dean, Hummel, and Hopson. The Stephen F. Austin Mustangs of Houston came to Conroe on October 17th and defeated the Tigers in a very tight game 14-7. The Conr o e touchdown was scored by Hopson. This was aheart- breaking game for the Tigers to lo s e as they out-played the Mus tang s all the way, making 19 first down s to Austin's 5. The line played a fine game and put our backs into the open many times, but tough breaks at crucial times cost the Tigers the game. The Tigers opened their District play on October 24th at Lufkin. In the worst game the Tigers played all year they were beaten by Lufkin 39-6. Clarke scored for the Tigers in the la st quarter after setting up the play himself on a 65 yard gallop. On October 31st the Nacogdoches Dragons came to Conr oe and were defeated by the Tigers I4-7. Our boys were s till recovering from the Lufkin game and were not in good form. The Conroe scores were made 'by a pass from Ballard to Dean and a run by Hopson. The extra points were made by Dean. The Tigers played at Jacksonville on November 7th and downed that team Z0-6. A pass from Ballard to Fuller made the first tally, and the other two were made by Hummel and Rhodes. The extra points were made by Dean. This was an easy game for the Tigers. The last quar te r was played by second and third team players. On November 14th the T ig e r s played at Bryan and defeated them Z0-7. Ballard scored the first tally for the Tigers and Hummel scored the other two. The extra points were ag ain scored by Dean. The longest run of the seasonwas made by Humrnel who returned a kick-off 85 yds. for a touch- down only to have it cancelled by a penalty. The Tigers finished the season on November Zlst by defeating the Palestine Wildcats inthe rain Z5-0. The first touchdown was on a pass from Ballard to Dean and the other three by Hopson, Rhodes, and Hummel. The score was held down against a weak Palestine team by the rain and the fact that a big part of the game was played by substitutes. Many of the boys who did not get their names in print as a star but who were indispensables to the team are Woodman, Sills, McDonald, Lax-ey, Pitts, Fuller, Carroll, Hodges, Hayes, Pool and many others we will not mention. Out of the Z0 lettermen this year only four will r e tu rn nextyear. Those four boys with the othe r squadrnen and Junior High boys are determined that next year will be another winning season for the Tigers. The four returning lettermen are Hopson, Clarke,McDonald, and Sills. The line played great football but we are not being critical of the backs who also played fine ball - you are born with speed or without. GOOD LUCK TIGERS! QQ. Hunanxel off for a nice gain. The Tigers finished the season on November Zlst by defeating the Palestine Wildcats inthe rain Z5-0. The first touchdown was on a pass from Ballard to Dean and the other three by Hopson, Rhodes, and Huxnxnel. The score was held down against a weak Palestine team by the rain and the fact that a big part of the game was played by substitutes. Many of the boys who did not get their names in print as a star but who were indispensables to the team are Woodman, Sills, McDonald, Larey, Pitts, Fuller, Carroll, Hodges, Hayes, Pool and many others we will not mention. Out of the Z0 lettermen this year only four will r e tu rn next year. Those four boys with the othe r squadmen and Junior High boys are determined that next year will be another winning season for the Tigers. The four returning lettermen are Hopson, Clarke,McDonald, and Sills. The line played great football but we are not being critical of the backs who also played fine ball - you are born with speed or without. GOOD LUCK TIGERS!
