I doffed my hat to them with all due respect. . One day, while passing the City Market, I was arrested by the S1113-S0ng tone of a familiar voice, Two, four, six, eight, T-E-N. There you are, one pound exactly. I paused and glanced inside and saw the genial face of Luther fButchl Allen above the meat counter. He was handling a yard or two of Weiners with the sureness of long practice. There was no need to be told that he was making a success in the market business. I proceeded on my way, and in turning a corner suddenly, I bumped into a tall gentleman wearing a derby hat and tailored suit. Before we could disentangle ourselves from the unceremonious em- brace and offered apologies, there was a flash of mutual recognition, I was an unpretentious person, and he' was the noted PhYSiCi2I1, Df- Thomas. At his invitation I accompanied him on one of his calls, after which we went for a drive over the city. We passed an up-to-date and attractive little chicken ranch On the outskirts of town. On the same day, I paid a visit to the light and power Plant where I saw Clarence Jefferson, who had become an expert electrician and was now holding a responsible position there. His sister, Pearl was office stenographer for the company. Having ten more days of my furlough left, I decided to spend them in Houston. Before leaving, however, I took my suit to the City Tailor Shop to have it pressed. Edwin Liles was the proprietor.
