Principals Reflect Gn The Passing Years. Terry W. Reber - High School Principal Reflections of the past and the resent give one an excellent chance for philosophizing, especially since change seems to be the order of today's society. We may not approve of many of these changes, but they are taking place. lt is true that many of these so-called changes are merely old ideas dressed up in new terminology or are created by individuals and groups for such purposes as increasing sales or gaining a following, political or otherwise. However, change can clear the cobwebs from old ideas and enable us to see solutions more clearly. Change is, however, a dynamic force and opposes those who are content with things as they are. To the have's , it is the status quo, but to the have-not's , change is the hope, With technology moving as it is, we had all better prepare ourselves for change with all the resources at our command, lf we do this, we will find life an in- teresting challenge. It may be different, but it will move. 'Your graduation indicates you were able to move along so far. We trust you will continue to move on progressively in the future. Congratulations Norman B. Dinger Assistant High School One of the most precious of human faculties is memory, When man is not occupied with tasks requiring mental concentration, he reHects on the memories of the past or contemplates the present and the future. Your yearbook portrays the interesting present, yet, at the same time, the book becomes a historical dialogue for the not to be forgotten past. The highlights of the year are there - the vivid pictures of beauties appreciated, the heartwarming reminiscences of friends enjoyed, the satisfaction of recalling work well done. Reflect upon your present blessings of which every man has plenty. The times that try men's souls are periods when men reflect upon the meaning of their existence and that which has given them sustenance, protection, and freedom. Life presents a challenge which reflects upon this past experience. Congratulations to the Weicon staff and good luck to the Class of 1970. Terry W. Reber High School Principal Principal Norman B. Dinger - Ass't H.S. Principal john B. Stoltzfus - Elementary Principal When one reflects on past and present educational experiences one must evaluate accomplishments in terms of achievement and character ln the individual the WILL is the source of achievement and character The importance or will in individual and social life follows from its function and may be indicated in the following ways - lt keeps the intellect at work or lets it idle lt keeps passion or unseemly emotions in subjection or lets them overwhelm us It realizes the capacity which nature heredity bestows or wraps it in a paper napkin lt improves the opportunity which environment allows or fatally neglects it It stems the current of adverse circumstance or drifts indifferently to an alien port lt is through example which appeals to one's own personality that education becomes effective The'very best wishes to all members of the Senior Class of 1970 john B. Mr Walter A. Rohrbach - Supe intendent It seems appropriate for seniors in their yearbook theme to reflect upon the past and present before embarking upon the future. Looking at the present we can appreciate many opportunities we enjoy compared with those who passed this way before us. Yet many happy, successful and satisfying lives grew out of the ideals and perserverance learned in the schools of the past. We can infer, then, that contemplation of the past and present in anticipation of the future must be a personal experience. It is something we do for our- selves. The wisdom of reflection is expressed in an old French proverb which states, A wise man reflects be- fore he speaks. A fool speaks, and then reflects on what he has uttered. Franklin said, Think twice be- fore you speak, or act once, and you will speak or act the more wisely for it. Coleridge concludes that, There is one art of which every man should be a mas- ter - the art of reflection. If you are not a thinking man, to what purpose are you a rnan at all? Best wishes to the Class of l97O!! Sincerely, Walter A. Rohrbach Superintendent

School Board - Weiserfs Decision Makers STANDING: Mr. Charles Tothero, Mr. George Manbeck, Mr. Kenneth Yoh, Mr. Allen Mucher, Mr, lohn Strickler, Mr. Walter Rohrbach - Superintendent SEATED: Mr. David Henderson, Mr. Kenneth Long, '-' i i - XMN i iw- Mrs. Edith Spohn - Secretary, Mr. Charles Hartman - President, Mr. George Werner During this year's senior class's twelve years of education many changes have occurred that either directly affected the school board or happened as a result of its actions. Among the more outstanding of these events was moving into the new high school, which was com- pleted in 1959. A few years later a union school dis- trict was formed. As a result, the individual school districts disappeared and the school board gradually diminished from 35 members to its present mem- bership of nine. In our elementary years, under the guidance of the school board, Conrad Weiser became an accre- dited high school. Some of the more recent evi- dences of the school board's tremendous concern for the student's welfare are the participation of Conrad Weiser in the vocational technical program, the construction of a new elementary school serving two centers, and football, a decision which affected every member living in the Conrad Weiser school district. The purchase of new band uniforms is the present undertaking of the school board. 6
