Rohrbach - Supe intendent It seems appropriate for seniors in their yearbook theme to reflect upon the past and present before embarking upon the future. Looking at the present we can appreciate many opportunities we enjoy compared with those who passed this way before us. Yet many happy, successful and satisfying lives grew out of the ideals and perserverance learned in the schools of the past. We can infer, then, that contemplation of the past and present in anticipation of the future must be a personal experience. It is something we do for our- selves. The wisdom of reflection is expressed in an old French proverb which states, A wise man reflects be- fore he speaks. A fool speaks, and then reflects on what he has uttered. Franklin said, Think twice be- fore you speak, or act once, and you will speak or act the more wisely for it. Coleridge concludes that, There is one art of which every man should be a mas- ter - the art of reflection. If you are not a thinking man, to what purpose are you a rnan at all? Best wishes to the Class of l97O!! Sincerely, Walter A. Rohrbach Superintendent Principals Reflect Gn The Passing Years. Terry W. Reber - High School Principal Reflections of the past and the resent give one an excellent chance for philosophizing, especially since change seems to be the order of today's society. We may not approve of many of these changes, but they are taking place. lt is true that many of these so-called changes are merely old ideas dressed up in new terminology or are created by individuals and groups for such purposes as increasing sales or gaining a following, political or otherwise. However, change can clear the cobwebs from old ideas and enable us to see solutions more clearly. Change is, however, a dynamic force and opposes those who are content with things as they are. To the have's , it is the status quo, but to the have-not's , change is the hope, With technology moving as it is, we had all better prepare ourselves for change with all the resources at our command, lf we do this, we will find life an in- teresting challenge. It may be different, but it will move. 'Your graduation indicates you were able to move along so far. We trust you will continue to move on progressively in the future. Congratulations Norman B. Dinger Assistant High School One of the most precious of human faculties is memory, When man is not occupied with tasks requiring mental concentration, he reHects on the memories of the past or contemplates the present and the future. Your yearbook portrays the interesting present, yet, at the same time, the book becomes a historical dialogue for the not to be forgotten past. The highlights of the year are there - the vivid pictures of beauties appreciated, the heartwarming reminiscences of friends enjoyed, the satisfaction of recalling work well done. Reflect upon your present blessings of which every man has plenty. The times that try men's souls are periods when men reflect upon the meaning of their existence and that which has given them sustenance, protection, and freedom. Life presents a challenge which reflects upon this past experience. Congratulations to the Weicon staff and good luck to the Class of 1970. Terry W. Reber High School Principal Principal Norman B. Dinger - Ass't H.S. Principal john B. Stoltzfus - Elementary Principal When one reflects on past and present educational experiences one must evaluate accomplishments in terms of achievement and character ln the individual the WILL is the source of achievement and character The importance or will in individual and social life follows from its function and may be indicated in the following ways - lt keeps the intellect at work or lets it idle lt keeps passion or unseemly emotions in subjection or lets them overwhelm us It realizes the capacity which nature heredity bestows or wraps it in a paper napkin lt improves the opportunity which environment allows or fatally neglects it It stems the current of adverse circumstance or drifts indifferently to an alien port lt is through example which appeals to one's own personality that education becomes effective The'very best wishes to all members of the Senior Class of 1970 john B. Stoltzfus Elementary Principal School Board - Weiserfs Decision Makers STANDING: Mr. Charles Tothero, Mr. George Manbeck, Mr. Kenneth Yoh, Mr. Allen Mucher, Mr, lohn Strickler, Mr. Walter Rohrbach - Superintendent SEATED: Mr. David Henderson, Mr. Kenneth Long, '-' i i - XMN i iw- Mrs. Edith Spohn - Secretary, Mr. Charles Hartman - President, Mr. George Werner During this year's senior class's twelve years of education many changes have occurred that either directly affected the school board or happened as a result of its actions. Among the more outstanding of these events was moving into the new high school, which was com- pleted in 1959. A few years later a union school dis- trict was formed. As a result, the individual school districts disappeared and the school board gradually diminished from 35 members to its present mem- bership of nine. In our elementary years, under the guidance of the school board, Conrad Weiser became an accre- dited high school. Some of the more recent evi- dences of the school board's tremendous concern for the student's welfare are the participation of Conrad Weiser in the vocational technical program, the construction of a new elementary school serving two centers, and football, a decision which affected every member living in the Conrad Weiser school district. The purchase of new band uniforms is the present undertaking of the school board. 6 Secretaries - Administrations Angels ,441 STANDING: Miss Ina Stupp, Mrs. Dorothy Wartluft, Mrs, Martha Trupe, Mrs. Glenda Worman SEATED: Mrs. Eileen Kulp, Mrs. Edith Spohn Miss Ina Stupp - l.B.M. In seventh grade we learned to know each other. The winter was filled with the excitement of our bas- ketball wins Ied by those revered seniors Bob Wertz, jerry Rabold, and Scott Burkhart. Our eighth grade year was rather uneventful. In the middle of the year was the student council election with Bruce David Snyder emerging victorious as junior high vice-president. The biggest thrill of the year came with our class trip to Philadelphia on chartered buses. In ninth grade we began to show we did have tal- ent. This was proved in our successful musical, SO THIS IS PARIS, with Karen Riegel and Brad Classmoyer play- ing the lead roles. Later in the year several members of our class represented our school in junior high county chorus. Tenth grade showed no outstanding accomplish- ments, but a few athletic stars began to emerge, lack Kuhn and lake Zerbe in basketball and Bob Yiengst in track and cross country. The beginning of our junior year brought something new. Football made its first appearance at Weiser, The first season proved so successful that the next year we entered into varsity competition. The 1968-69 basket- ball season will be hard to forget. With the loss of our star, lack Kuhn, our team proved its skill in the district plays-offs with the abilities of the other members of the basketball team. Our scholastic ability was dis- played by the admittance of members of our class to the National Honor Society and by Nancy Ulrich, who is a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship pro- gram. The last effort put forth by our class as juniors was the 1969 Prom, Memorable Moments. Our last year has so far been proving to be the best. Suzie Knoll represented our school well in her per- formance as Conrad Weiser's junior miss. Homeroom H-4 broke the record for PSB sales, reaching a total of close to 5600. This year brought one of the finest hockey teams Weiser ever produced with many mem- bers ofthe team being seniors. Conrad Weiser will be represented again in district band, chorus, and orches- tra by students from Weiser, five of them being se- niors. Gary Luckenbill has brought credit to our school in the music department by representing Weiser in at least 14 county, district, and region festivals. The cast of the successful drama club play, TOM IONES was com- prised mainly of seniors with Kevin Kershner and jane Eshbach playing the parts of Tom jones and Sophia Western. Bobby Yiengst made Weiser known when he placed second in the cross country state meet. At pres- ent the senior class of 1970 is working to make this year's Christmas dance, The Magic of Silver Bells, the best Weiser has ever seen. , A if MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Nancy Ulrich and james Kalzaman , 9, F ,f.,..'f' CLASS CLOVVNS Ruthie Cuistvvile and Mike Helm BEST DRESSED Cindy Eisenbise and Kevin Kershner QUIETEST Maryann Frantz and Billy Santamour BEST ALL AROUND Cindy Zimmerman and Greg Werner MOST SCHOOL SPIRITED Ste-I Harakcl and lim Hummel Senior Bests MOST ATHLETIC Kara-n Rue-gc-I and lake Zerbe MOST MUSICAL Betsy Klopp and Gary Luckefnbill gil? Kim's grand prize was to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show with Conrad Birdie singing One Last Kiss, Albert Peterson's song written just for the occasion. The song made a success of Albert Peterson, and Kim MacAfee received her kiss from Conrad 111 Bye Bye Birdie How do students voice their opinions about school policies? The answer is naturally through the Student Council. The council has a long list of accomplishments. Along with its regular duties of preparing an activity calendar, keeping the indoor activity calendar up to date, operating an efficient snack bar, sponsoring the Morp, and coordinating field day, the council has taken on an additional outdoor activity calendar and a foreign exchange program. Terry Wolfe, president of the council, and his able co-workers, Scott Rhoads, vice president, Cindy Eisen- bise, secretary, and Tim Everline, treasurer, have sold sportswear to help defray the cost of the Morp. 1969-1970 h'as been a year of endless work for the council, and the rewards are evident throughout the school. Officers elected to carry on the council's work next year are president, Scott Rhoads, vice-president, Kitty Kintzer, secretary, Vicki Moyer, treasurer, Fred Gerhart, and junior high vice-president, john Santamour. This is an example of one of the many campaign posters which can be seen in the halls prior to the Student Council elections. i 1 4 Senior High Student Council members posing for the picture are Hoover, R.
