Supervising Principal To the seniors: During your twelve years of elementary and secondary education, your teachers strived diligently to develop in you the ability to think deeply and critically. Thinking as such, presupposes that you have learned certain knowl- edges and certain skills which prepared you for the vocation of your choice. Success in the future years, however, will require more than the possession of information, or the power to think. Knowledge and thinking must be trans- formed into some kind of work produced with your hands. lt will not be sutti- cient however, to have your hands produce in large quantities. Your work will be iudged in a large measure by the way your hands will render services willingly, without thought of receiving something in return, how well your hands will aroduce work of high quality, how well your hands will be offered in a spirit of cooperation with those of your fellowmen to make this a better world in which to live. Sincerely, James F. Shankweiler Supervising Principal I Mr. JAMES F. SHANKWEILER Conrad Weiser Area Schools

JOHN B. STULTZFUS Supervisor of Elementary Education To the Seniors, ln our society, where power, instead of descending from above, ascends from the common people, it is necessary that there be a high level of purpose, integrity, and intelligence among people. ln a world where problems require the maximum strength of all, it is imperative that every indi- vidual be developed to the utmost in mind, body and spirit. One of the most urgent needs of our times is education, the soundest, most far-reaching and effective education that man can conceive and develop. To that end we in the elementary school have emphasized the development of basic skills necessary for clear obiective thinking, reading, listeningp observingg discussing, obtaining, evaluating, and organizing information. We stressed the development of spiritual, moral, and emotional values, social improvement, and reaching conclusions. We pass the student with these basic beginnings from our HANDSinto the HANDSof secondary education, and the community for further enrichment, and development. For all your days prepare, And meet them ever alike, When you are the anvil, bear- When you hammer, strike. E. Markham Best wishes for your future success, John B. Stoltzfus Supervisor of Elementary Education 8
