We, too, have enioyed many rich moments during our school days in Conrad Weiser. ln the following pages we have tried to capture some of these cherished moments, which we shall want to remember for many years to come. The theme of this year's Weicon is Toiling Hands. In the upper left-hand corner we see the tiny hands of a kindergarten pupil, just beginning to break through the surface of education. These little hands will be toiling more and more as the years progress, forever encountering and overcoming new and varied duties, and, as they grow in physical strength, they will enrich the life of the one to whom they belong, To this young student we wish much success in the years that lie ahead. Pictured in the bottom right-hand corner are the hands of a Senior. These hands have been toiling, day in and day out, through life's long years of schooling. These hands are almost ready to reach for a high school diploma. That, however, will not mean the end of their toiling, They have gained for their owner certain fundamental principles, they have been given slight pushes once in a while to attain their goal, but now upon them alone will depend success or failure in a different and difficult world. We see now that the hands of the Senior and the hands of our little friend have a close relationship, a similar duty to perform. The one pair will be toiling endlessly throughout many school years, laying the groundwork for future success. The more nurtured pair of hands have successfully built this foundation, now they will be engaged in the much more intricate and difficult task of building a successful life. Will they be able to leave their mark of distinction on the ever-changing pages of history? We of the Weicon staff sin- cerely hope so. God's speed to all of you!! 2 Dedication To our mothers and lathersfvvhose interests have been in the intprovernent of our livrfs wltme- lwvf: and encouragement have been insptrattonal -and never ending sacrifices have made possible these tour years ot high school-we respectfully dedicate The Weicon of l957. Thinking as such, presupposes that you have learned certain knowl- edges and certain skills which prepared you for the vocation of your choice. Success in the future years, however, will require more than the possession of information, or the power to think. Knowledge and thinking must be trans- formed into some kind of work produced with your hands. lt will not be sutti- cient however, to have your hands produce in large quantities. Your work will be iudged in a large measure by the way your hands will render services willingly, without thought of receiving something in return, how well your hands will aroduce work of high quality, how well your hands will be offered in a spirit of cooperation with those of your fellowmen to make this a better world in which to live. Sincerely, James F. Shankweiler Supervising Principal I Mr. JAMES F. SHANKWEILER Conrad Weiser Area Schools JOHN B. STULTZFUS Supervisor of Elementary Education To the Seniors, ln our society, where power, instead of descending from above, ascends from the common people, it is necessary that there be a high level of purpose, integrity, and intelligence among people. ln a world where problems require the maximum strength of all, it is imperative that every indi- vidual be developed to the utmost in mind, body and spirit. One of the most urgent needs of our times is education, the soundest, most far-reaching and effective education that man can conceive and develop. To that end we in the elementary school have emphasized the development of basic skills necessary for clear obiective thinking, reading, listeningp observingg discussing, obtaining, evaluating, and organizing information. We stressed the development of spiritual, moral, and emotional values, social improvement, and reaching conclusions. We pass the student with these basic beginnings from our HANDSinto the HANDSof secondary education, and the community for further enrichment, and development. For all your days prepare, And meet them ever alike, When you are the anvil, bear- When you hammer, strike. E. Markham Best wishes for your future success, John B. Stoltzfus Supervisor of Elementary Education 8 Mrs. JOSEPHINE KLOPP Marion Center- Elementary Mr. JOSEPH E. SEDULE Wernersville Center High School Building Heads The responsibility for each building falls into the HANDS of those pictured here. The HAND that signs the pass, rings the bells, guides the teachers and pupils, assigns duties, and punishes the offending and wayward. The HAND that helps and encourages, always ready and willing. I can't exactly recall what happened but suddenly I felt hazy and lightheaded, as though I were drifting into space. l saw myself standing at my girl's front door, decked out in my Sunday best and ringing the doorbell... Arriving at the prom we spied a few friends and ioined the happy group. Everyone was in gay spirits and enioying the merriment. . . The door opened and there she stood looking like a princess. After presenting flowers to her we were off to the prom. . . I Refreshments were served and all who attended welcomed the delicious food and punch. ll believe I had a number of helpings of food and several glassfuls of punch,J The music was smooth and rhythmic so well all decided to take the fatal step and dance... When the clock struck eleven we regretfully ventured from the prom and left in search of some nourishment... Eating delicious hamburgers and drinking cakes at the restaurant was fun. We laughed and talked until we absolutely had to be shoving home. It was a wonderful dream and there's a good chance that it will become a reality because next week is the biggest social event of the season, the Junior Prom. 32 o 'NR Q 0 mx W ,Q fu ,' .rg :ff J ,, 'Qi Eff: ff! .M K ' J' 'H Q 9 fa Q ,N Q ' 4 l l Y B Wernersville Center FIRST ROW-Judy Werner, Faye Nye, Roxanne Redcay, Shirley Spaid, Mr. Hess, Gale Long, Marlene Bressler, Barbara Blatt, Lucille Harman.
