JOHN B. STOLTZFUS Supervisor of Elementary Education lt seems to me that the best way to make the most of your life and opportunities is to take the long look ahead. The present circumstances may seem unpromising and confused. That means all the more opportunity for planning, for patient building, for courageous pioneering, for inteli- gence, and for foundations laid on the bedrock of worth and virtue. You are greater than your environment. You stand on the summit of possibility, and the future will be largely what you make it. Let no one con- vince you that life is too uncertain to plan. Every great accomplishment of mankind has been realized in spite of the cry that it could not be done. You can plan, lose, and plan again, rising higher each time because of the purpose and discipline of your life. So nigh is grandeur to our dust So near is God to man, When Duty whispers low, Thou must, The youth replies, Nl can. -Emerson G. GILBERT SNYDER Supervisor of Secondary Education There is no source which produces ready-made leaders. The leaders of tomorrow are our youths of today. There seems to be a fallacy in the thought oft expressed that leaders are born, not made. Leaders make themselves. No upright building ever has been permanently erected without plans resulting from a dream and the plans and designs emanating from the architect's trestleboard. The lives we build follow the same patternf a dream-a plan--and the finished product. ln our free country anyone may dream, anyone may plan, and preparation for the fullfilment of that dream is open to all. The plans of the Great Architect of the Universe must be understood, there in lies the importance of understanding, and wisdom-Education. Wisdom is the princi- ple thingy therefore get wisdom, and with all thy getting, get understanding. Schooling is a factor, but EDUCATION, the practical application of schooling and learning, is THE ARCHITECT OF TOMORROW. Education may bring to you the laurel wreath of achieve- ment and success. lit ' ' T f 3, K. .,- A .5 .. Y 'E .- L .wa - , H 5 1 f dpi .... To the Seniors: You no doubt have been thinking of your school as a place where you would re- ceive the knowledge and skills necessary for college or for a vocation. Beyond a doubt, this is an important function of education, and we hope that your twelve years in school have been profitable in this respect. We hope the school has also developed in you a sense of deep responsibility which will help you become a diligent and conscientious citizen of your community. As a re- sponsible citizen you have to assume positive leadership, be willing to help others, and make a contribution of your talents to the extent that you have been endowed. Only by doing these things will you achieve success. Many of us have dreams of high achievement in the future. Yet, we forget too often that success tomorrow is dependent upon how successful we were today. Too often we anticipate a bright future without being willing to give our best to every task. Only by assuming day-to-day responsibilities can we be assured of success in the future. Forming good behavior patterns today will determine the kind of citizens we shall be tomorrow. Assuming responsibilities and being a good citizen cannot be postponed. Our best wishes attend you. 5 Sincerely, K James F. Shankweiler l Supervising Principal Mr. James F Shankweller Supervising Principal Conrad Weiser Area Schools
