GREETI G FROM THE CO -RAH! STAFF Last year we said there is nothing so permanent as change . We reiterate, .... and if there is a bit of regret at the passing of the old there is a great deal of enthusiasm and anticipation at the coming of the new. The buildings we showed in the architects' drawings last year are becoming a reality. The old Adminis- tration Building shown here in its treeshaded beauty will be remodeled as a classroom building and the love- ly new Administration Building will take its place, as the head of the college buildings. With the new women's dormitory and the remodeling of Russell into a men's dormitory, living on campus will be enhanced. The new student center with its cafeteria-dining hall, private banquet room, ballroom, game room, snack-bar, and bookstore will become the center of social life on campus. The most recent expansion, academically, has been the embracing of the Muskogee junior College as a Branch and the addition of technical training courses at the Branch which meet the industrial needs of the community. Greater Connors , now, combines the strengths of Muskogee junior College and those of the main campus. Echoes of the Past: - Connors was established in 1909 by the Oklahoma Legislature as a School of Agri- culture which emphasized Agriculture, Home Economics, and the arts necessary to rural living. lt was named for J. P. Connor who was then President of the Board of Agriculture, and was located in Eastern Oklahoma near the town of Warner mainly through the efforts of Senator Campbell Russell whose home was nearby. Through the years, Connors has developed into a Liberal Arts College granting Associate Degrees in the Arts and Sciences and offering pre-professional training in law, medicine, engineering, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and teacher-education. Through the combined efforts of the Boards of Control, the presidents, strong faculties, and an appreciative citizenry it has become a stronghold of learning. If to any one person leadership credit in the development of the college could be given it would have to go to President jacob johnson. His has been the honor and the duty of guiding the college through the past thirty years of its operation. However, President johnson would be the first to say that Connor's achieve- ment in the field of high education has been and will continue to be due, not only to the leadership of its president and the ability of its faculty, but to the character and sincerity of purpose of its students. Stepping Stones to the Future: - The many facets of education now available to the student bodies of Greater Connors whether aimed at continuing at senior colleges, going into the business world, commu- nity service, or the-wide-blue-yonder , are adequate to prepare each for his next step. History has a way of continuing--and so does our story. To the personnel of Greater Connors we present for your enjoyment of 1962-63 Con-Rah! May its Echoes be pleasant and your Stepping Stones be easy to reach! --: Treva Maxfield, Fred Monaco, Sharon Pierce, Linda Cottner, Marilyn Moore, Erma jean Harris, Wes McFarland, Barbara Byrom, Wanda Chester, Sandra Wells, Doug Fine, Cornell Roberts, Myrna Holmes, Donna Cawthon, Mary Sue Owen, Mike Allen, Elizabeth Daniels, Trois Hill, jack Nixon Wes Mc- Farland, Lee Turney and Miss Claire Harrison, Sponsor.
