HARRISON Registrar, and Chief Clerk Dean of XVomen, and Mathematics Secretary to the President Instructorg Sponsor of The Con-Rah! History of Connors College Connors State Agricultural College was authorized by an ZICI of the first legislature, May 10, 1908. Through the influence of Senator Campbell Russell, Wariaer was chosen as its location and one-hundred-sixty acres of land upon which the school is located was given to the school by the citizens of Wfarner. The school was named for Mr. tl. P. Connors who was at that time President of the State Board of Agriculture. The first session of Connors opened in February of 1909 in downtown Wfarner. In 1911, the Administration Building was completed and the school was moved to its present site, one mile west of Wfarner. Mr. KI. A. Liner was the first president. Mr. Wfalter Van Allen was the succeeding president in 1910, and he was followed by Mr. S. Murray in 191 1. The presidents during the 1912- 1 913 session of the school were Mr. V. Faulk- ner and Mr. W. S. Jackson. President Rennick replaced Jackson in 1913, but he remained only a short time. He was succeeded by Mr. Malone who resigned in 1917. At that time Mr. George A. Coffey of Haskell State School of Ag- riculture was transferred to Connors. In 1918 Mr. H. C. King became president of Connors and he held the position for fifteen years. Succeeding him as president was Mr. Jacob Johnson whose service has been continuous. In 1943 the war program called Mr. Johnson into active service overseas, and during his leave of absence Mr. True B. Emer- son served as acting president. From the original one-hundred-sixty acres, the college land has been increased to two-hundred-ninety acres, and the buildings have increased from one to twelve major buildings. The campus, which covers about thirty-four acres, is beautifully landscaped. An amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution made on July 11, 1944, set up a governing board for the agri- cultural and mechanical colleges. This board consists of nine members, eight of whom are appointed by the Gover- nor subject to the approval of the State Senate, and the ninth member is the president of the State Board of Agri- culture. Connors is also under the supervision of the I3oardofRegents for Higher Education.
