V Presidenfs Message GREETINGS T0 YOU, the young men and women who have made up this year's student body. I sincerely believe this has been one of our best years. More and more of our young people are seeking the benefits of education beyond the high school. The feeling of must for education at the junior college level is ever strengthening. All over our country the institutions of high- er learning have felt the impact of increasing enrolments. Con- nors has been no exception in this trend. We are glad you have come to us for your training. Your faculty considers it a privilege to have served you. The co- operation of students and faculty has been most gratifying and through your cooperative efforts we have been able to make progress in our program of service to the young people of our state. I hope you can review your part in this year's effort with satisfaction. Congratulations to our graduates and a sincere invitation to our freshmen to study with us in 1957 and 1958. Dean 's Greeting CERTAINLY CONGRATULATIONS are in order for Miss Mar- shall and the Con-Rah staff for producing this beautiful 1957 yearbook. It's quite an understatement simply to say, Getting out an annual is a big job. It is a very big job, and each per- son who worked on it is to be commended for giving his time and talents so generously. This edition of the Con-Rah faithfully records the history of your school life from September, 1956, to May 24, 1957. It gives the highlights of the year in picture and in story. Record- ed here are the unforgettable thrills of athletic contests, the fun at student mixers and formal dances. Pictures of cherished friends look out at you from almost every page. You will enjoy looking at this yearbook now, but it will be doubly interesting to you as the years go by. Ten, twenty, thirty years from now you'll derive a great deal of happiness DUI ofturning the pages of your 1957 Con-Rah and travelling down Memory Lane with Connors friends. I hope that you'll remember your pleasant experiences at Connors and that you'll speedily forget the unpleasant ones. All in all, it seems to me to have been a wonderful school yearg I hope that you'll remember it that way, too. As you leave the Connors campus, I wish each of you the very best of everything that life has to offer. ' Sincerely, O A. B. Through the influence of Senator Campbell Russell, War- ner was chosen as its location and one-hundred-sixty acres of land upon which the school is located was given to the school by the citizens of Warner. The school was named for Mr. I. P. Connors who was at that time Presi- dent of the State Board of Agriculture. The first session of Connors opened in February of 1909 in downtown Warner. In 1911, the Administration Building was completed and the school was moved to its present site, one mile west of Warner. Mr. J. A. Liner was the first president. Mr. Walter Van Allen was the succeeding president in 1910, and he was followed by Mr. J. S. Murray in 1911. The presidents dur- ing the 1912-1913 session of the school were Mr. J. V. Faulkner and Mr. W. S. Jackson. President Rennick re- placed jackson in 1913, but he remained only a short time. He was succeeded by Mr. Malone who resigned in 1917. At that time Mr. George A. Coffey of Haskell State School of Agriculture was transferred to Connors. In 1918 Mr. H. C. King became president of Connors and he held the position for fifteen years. Succeeding him as president was Mr. jacob Tohnson whose service has been contin- uous. In 1943 the war program called Mr. johnson into act- ive service overseas, and during his leave of absence Mr. True B. Emerson served as actingpresident. From the original one-hundred-sixty acres, the col- lege land has been increased to two-hundred-ninety acres, and the buildings have increased from one to twelve major buildings. The campus, which covers about thirty-four acres, is beautifully landscaped. An amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution made on july 11, 1944, set up a governing board for the agricultural and mechanical colleges. This board consists of nine members, eight of whom are appointed by the Governor subject to the approval of the State Senate, and the ninth member is the president of the State Board of Agriculture. s J. WITH THE MOTTO Happiness multiples as we divide it with others the Con-Rah! staff was truly busy collecting, Q1 the present and far into the future of our happy experiences here at Connors. As fund raising projects the staff sponsored bake sales, operated the concession booth, conducted the yearbook elec- tion, sold advertisements to merchants of the surrounding area, and sold subscriptions to the yearbook. The yearbook staff finished the last page of the yearbook witha smile and a wrinkled brow and celebrated with a picnic.
