 To be o high school football coach, it takes not only patience, but the ability to teach and make people understand, says football coach Dob Lewis. He began his coaching career In 1948 at Marysville, Ohio. In 1946,he coached at Wyom- ing In Cincinnati, and In 1977 he was offered a Job at Conner. It sounded good so I took It, he said. Coach Lewis says he likes it here at Conner because there is a good balance between aca- demics and athletics. Athletics are considered important and the kids are interested and want to excel. He also likes the very supportive ad- ministration. Just this year, he won his 250th game. He considers it a big accomplishment because he didn't think he'd ever get get that far when he started coaching. He says the team has im- proved, but they have their ups and downs with each season. Next year with six returning lettermen, he feels it will be a good year, espe- cially if they can get past the districts. In his spare time. Coach Lewis enjoys reading and playing golf. He also likes to watch other sports on T.V. Coach Lewis plans to continue coaching and teaching for the next two years. In the future, when he retires, he would like to travel and see the country. Like every year, it had it's milestones and its tragedies. On January 13 an Air Florida Boeing crashed into the Potomac, claiming seventy-eight lives and prompting several heroic acts. On the 24th the Bengals played in the Super Bowl, but were defeated by the 49ers. It was a disappointing end to a terrific season On March 30, John Hinckley was found innocent of shooting President Reagan. The Reds had the worst year in their history. They went 61-100. Never before have they lost one- hundred games. Cyanide laced Tylenol capsules killed seven people in Chicago. On November 10, Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev died of a heart- attack. On December 2, Barney Clark became the first person to receive an artificial heart; without if he wouldn't have lived as long as he did. Unem- ployment was at It's highest in forty-two years, while there was a major drop In Inflation. Prices rose at the slowest rate In a decade. Here you have It. The highlights of 1962. Was it a year worth remembering or forgetting?
