CONNER STUDENTS GET RECOGNIZED With each year comes old and new customs. This year, our new principal Mr. Dill Arnold has come up with the idea of Student of the Week for those students who go above and beyond the call of duty. Each week at Conner, students who work exceptionally hard can be nominated for Stu- dent of the Week by a fellow student or teach- er. At the end of the week, all nominations are taken in and a committee of teachers and guid- ance counselors decide who the next Student of the Week will be. Once you are nominated for this position your accomplishments will be looked at each week until you are voted in for this honor. The lucky student who is picked as Student of the Week receives a certificate for their achievements, an Arby's and Frisch's cou- pon, their picture put in the school hall, and their name announced over the intercom. We are very proud of those students who have been selected as Student of the Week and we would most of all like to thank Mr. Arnold for his support in our school and for giv- ing the Conner student another honor to work for. 1039 Limaburg Rd. Parents don't real- ly know, or they don't want to accept It. Either way, it usually takes someone else to tell them that their kids are on drugs. At least now if a problem arises, there is somewhere to turn to. Kids Helping Kids is a non-profit organization serving kids, ages 12-22, in the Tri-stote area. The program, started in Florida, was brought to Ohio by reformed drug abusers, and now there is o Kids Helping Kids program in Hebron. The program consists of five phases. A young person will progress through each phase ot his own pace. Phase 1: The newcomer” lives with the fam- ily of on oldcomer”, a youth farther along in the program. During this phase, the newcomer attends the program seven days o week, and is never without his oldcomer. At some point, he will hove earned the right to talk to his parents for 10 minutes o week, and to hove responsibil- ities for chores, such os serving, washing floors, etc. Phase 2: The youth is now permitted to live at home provided that the home environment is free of chemical abuse. If it is not. the youth will continue to live in a foster home. This phase permits the family to begin rebuilding the rela- tionships that were lost during the druggie years”. Second phasers attend the program seven days a week. Phase 3: The youth is permitted to go back to school or work, but continues to attend the pro- gram each day after school and work, and on the weekends. Phase 4: In addition to going to school and working the youth can put in requests for per- mission to go out with his family and friends from the program. He is now required to be at the program five days a week rather than sev- en.
