I N E E R s Ready to answer all bells -. . ,J This statement, Tuttered hundreds offtimes,-Afrom Main Control to the Bridge, has become the hallmark of CONNOLE's Engineering Department, although seemingly commonplace, these words are the result ofjrnany arduous hours and numerous technical skills carefully blended together to fi.,-i 7 f - produce the engineersf outstanding record of achievements during MED '76. Lt Charles I., Bruckner, USN Engmeqringwg G From performing highly sophisticated main propulsion operations to the everyday tasks of maintenance and cleaning, the CONNOLE Snipes got the job done in their usual capable manner. They were equally adept in running full power while making repairs, as they were in providing the normal hotel type services with barely an interruption. Their track record is among the best, and the statistics say it all. During the cruise the ship steamed a distance of 41,344 nautical miles while consuming 2,266,462 gallons of fuel, for an economical 54.81 gallons to the miles. The engineers also produced 1,218,332 gallons of feed water for the ships boilers and 1,488,477 gallons of fresh water for the crew, not to mention the 17,152,000 ice cubes that eased the long. hot summer days. To say the .engineers passed 'a propulsion examinin.gfbo'ard after, steaming six months under they mostldemavndingof circumstances is no smalllfeat, yet they acknowledge this accomplishment only as routine. From paralleling the electrical load to adjusting room temperature to a comfortable medium, and from emergency light-off and casualty procedure to ensuring pleasant sanitation facilities, the men in coveralls did it, with a can do attitude and spirit not often found on naval vessels. The Engineers were definitely Ready to answer all bells . if Ens P.E. Moyer, USNR Main Propulsion Assistant B and M Division Officer 1 K A .. . , v Ens K.
