Clean out of the way!',- Who do you think you are? Such were the phrases hurled at the 147 freshmen Cugly ducklingsj who entered Oonnersville high school in the fall of 1927. Only eighty-five of these ugly ducklings have paddled their way to the senior class of 1931, Together with the twenty-one more classmates who have joined their group they have changed to beautiful swans Cat least we hope their minds have feathered outb. For four years the class of '31 has made its way through many trials and tribulations, as well as joys. Activities ranged from physical and mental work to social affairs. Some swam in the Lake of Sports. Six seniors, who began their career on the scrub team where they took all the bumps and knocks, helped the Spar- tan basketball team win glory. The same ones also served on the football team. George Kee was prominent on the track team. Elizabeth Bullard proved to be the duckiest girl tennis player and received a letter as an award, the first one ever given to a girl in Connersville high school. Edwarzl Cotton was also awarded a letter in tennis. Fifteen seniors blossomed forth in the plumage of the National Honor Society. Some quacking has meaning. That of the six senior debaters surely did uave when they persistently tried to prove their points in all debates. And Donald Turner placed second at the district oratorical contest on the Constitution. ' In keeping with the legendary idea that swans are musical, many seniors glided on the Sea of Music, Carlysle Leadbetter winning special recognition as prima donna of China Shop . ' Other activities in which members of this class were some birds C011- sisted of the Aeneid, Art club, Hi-Y, and Strut and Fret. The leads of Peg O' My Heart . the play given by the last club, were taken by Mary Green and Marjorie Miller. Lily Custer, Kathryn Johnson, Georgina Beaumont, and Robert Brockley were leading characters of t'Page the Princef, The class appropriately chose green and white sweaters Cwhich color combination suggests a white swan sailing along on green waterl. Caps for the boys and tams for the girls were selected to Htop off the costumes. ln the junior year most of the pinfeathers had disappeared, and Francis Allison was elected swan master, with Mary Green as chief assistant. Mar- jorie Miller and Francis Miller were other officers. That year the class gave a most beautiful Junior-Senior, with the gym blossoming forth into a garden of lavender and gold. In the senior year the senior play was the climax of the activities of the class. Throughout the four years, the class of '31 has at one time and another been under the wings of Miss Mary Ann Scholl, Miss Alice Katterjohn, Mr. T. W. Barnett, Mr. V. D. Barker, Miss Rachel llull, and Miss Edith Hopkins, the last four of whom bore most of the responsibility. Miss Mary Rieman helped with the finishing touches before the swans were ready to spread their wings and soar away. Now the class of '31 pauses to bid you adieu and goes to test its wings in the outside world. Page Two I
