Buildingcer- tainly looks as if it had had a vaca- tion from students. Sept. 10-Seniors flash rings and pins in the eyes of underclassmen. Sept. 11-Supt. E. C. Dodson gives good advice to the students. Sept, 20-Spartans win first foot- ball game of the year. Sept. 27-Clarion gets Word that it is again winner in l. H. S. P. A. newspaper contest. Oct. 1, 2- The Prince Is Paged . Oct. 7-Seniors choose to abide by the rule of an elected three. Oct. 8-Students take over duties of principal and teachers and a good time is had by all. Oct, 8-Sorrow comes to Senior high school with the death of Mr. W. F. L. Sanders, the grand old man of the faculty. Oct. 10-School dismissed in the afternoon in respect to the memory of Mr. Sanders, Whose funeral is held from his home. Oct. 16, 17, 18-State Teachersi Association meeting at Indianapolis. Journalists go to Franklin to get silver loving cup. Oct. 20-All too soon first report cards are out.: Oct. 23-Five bright seniors, in. cluding one boy, are chosen for Na- tional Honor Society. Oct. 31-Ghosts visit Halloween carnival held at Senior high. Senior class finds royalty in their midst. .Nov. 1-Six seniors play their last pigskin game for C. H. S.. Almost, Newcastle has its record spoiled. Nov. ll-Student program hon- ors Armistice day. Nov. 12-Miss Lillian Gay,Berry tells school all about Virgil. Nov. 13-Everybody dresses up and comes to night school. Nov. 14--Spartans tomahawk the Short Warriovrs to start off the hardwood season, Nov. 17, 18-Would-be actors make debut at Strut and Fret try- outs. Nov. 26-Work for report cards is finished again. Time-out is taken to eat turkey. Dec. 3- Actors turn poets and patients at Strut and Fret initiation. Dec. 16-Teachers have Christ- mas party in cafeteria. Dec. 17-Seniors urge everybody to order a Swan Song for a Christmas gift. Dec. 21-The chimes ring again as public speaking class and music department present Christmas play in school auditorium. ' ' ' 9 SWAN SONG . f. 193.1 , 4- K- , I 1 .gi . Along with cold weather came that yearlygzttack of basketball-itis. Even after the varsity schedule and the tournaments were over, the effects of the malady stuck to some ofthe students. Freshman and sophomore home rooms organized their respective teams and formed the After-Supper league. Once a week they engaged in rough and tumble games, the main purpose of which was to uncover prospects for next year's Junior Spartans. Winning thirteen games out of their sixteen-game schedule, Coach Ken- neth Cook 's Junior Spartans for 1930-31 went through a most successful sea- son. The three games lost were the reserves of the varsities of the schools played. The Juniors scored 432 points to their opponents' 290. Two of their members were taken on the first string for tournament play. Making themselves known in basketball circles as a team that would fight to the last, Coach M. C. Pruitt 's Spartans Went through a hard schedule with a marked degree of success, but Lady Luck refused to smile at tourna- ment time, and the end came in the regional. The season's record showed sixteen of the twenty scheduled games on the victory side of the ledger.
