GRAPHIC ARTS A II IIII FTI G GRAPHIC ARTS - DRAFTING New products are constantly coming onto the market and they must be intro- duced to the consumer. It is the work of the commercial artist to visually introduce these products to potential users. Connelley gives the young artist an opportunity to learn how ideas are presented and vizualized from the ad- vertising viewpoint. He also learns how to create and design illustrations of copy for advertisements in news- papers, magazines, booklets, and posters. The prospective commercial artist must have a flare for arrange- ments in pattern and design, creative talent, and a close coordination be- tween head and hand. There is a constant need for printed materials and printers. The opportu- nity, to perform all of the duties concerned with the hand and machine setting of type, is given the boy at Connelley. The young printer assem- bles type and cuts in chases and per- forms duties prior to the actual print- ing operations. He also learns how to use various hand, bench, and machine tools. Constant changes in equipment, tools, and consumer goods creates an unlimited demand for good draftsmen. A prospective draftsman at Connelley learns to prepare detail drawings and working plans for engineering and man- ufacturing purposes. A young drafts- man should have a good knowledge of draftsman's instruments and athor- ough knowledge of mathematics, along with a skill in drawing and a good sense of proportion. Mr. D.
