METAL TRADE M ETAL TRADES As long as our technical advance- ment continues, the demands for ma- chinery can never be all together satisfied. The machinist, the pattern maker, the welder, and the foundry man, all contribute to the satisfaction of this demand. The prospective metal worker at Connelley is exposed to a wide variety of applicable experiences, The ma- chinist is taught to operate all the basic machine tools. The pattern maker is exposed to the making of wooden patterns of various degrees of com- plexity for use in the construction of casting. The welder is given ample experience to make various types of welds on a variety of metals utilizing either gas or electric, The foundry man on the other hand is taught the actual construction of casting from a number of different types of metals. A young man entering this field should have physical strength, manual dexterity, and above average talent for judging shape and size. He should also possess a good understanding of written specifications, a knowledge of shop mathematics, in addition to a wide knowledge of wood working tools and the properties of metals.
