Close your eyes and think of me, and soon Iwill be there, To brighten up even your darkest night. You just call out my name and you know wherever I am, I'll come running, to see you again, Winter, spring, summer and fall, All you have to do is call and I'll be there, You've got a friend, If the sky above you grows dark and full of clouds, And that old north wind, north wind begins to blow, Keep your head together, and call my name out loudg Soon you'll hear me knocking at your door, Now ain't it good to know that you've got a friend when people can be so cold? They'll hurt you, yes, and desert you, and take your soul if you let them, Oh, but don't you let them, 3,2 You just call out my name and you know wherever I am I'll come running, to see you again, Winter, spring, summer and fall, All you have to do is call and I'll be there, yes, Iwill, You've Got A Friend. swf-its t Hs -. Many of our under- classmen turned in superb perform- ances, but we didn't have the con- sistency that makes a championship team. Chuck Law, dubbed the team's most-im- proved player, came about his title the hard way. Has Connell gained a new sport? Not really. Some probably can still re- member the state championship team of some half a dozen years ago. But since then the sport sank slowly to near-extinction, but never died. Five hardy golf enthusiasts revived the sportthis year, made the plans and even bought their own pages in the yearbook. With Mr. Seely as their coach, the team attended a number of matches and tournaments. Number one player and elected captain was David Hart, who also led the team in Wins. Bob Law Golf ls ack was voted inspirational. CHUCK LAW L QABOVEj David and Dan's clowning makes us wonder what really happens out on the course. The brilliant streak was cut short of four by Woodland High School and some unfortunate injuries this year. Connell made it's bid with Randy Fox in the 880 yard run, the mile and the two mile, Ron Winn in the 100 yard and 220 yard dashesg the 880 yard relay team of Winn, Scott Herron, Mark McCary and Dwight Loeweng and Kent Mackay in the javelin. On the basis of qualifying times, Connell was favored to take the title again. Ron Winn, even though suffering damaged muscles earlier this year, was the favorite to win both of the dashes, but his ailment reoccurred and proved to be a determining factor in Connell's dethroning. A tie for 17th place was the best Connell could produce. Randy Fox took 3rd in the mile and 6th in the half-mile, the 880 relay team, with the injured Winn as anchorman, placed 5th, and Kent Mackay sent the javelin flying for 6th place. The regular season was highlighted with many personal bests and new school records. Kent Mackay set new re- cords in the javelin, as did several others in their specialty. One of the surprises of the season was Randy Odom in the discus throw. Although only a first year trackman, junior Randy broke the oldest school record and established a new at 147 feet, 8 inches. Unfortunately he missed qualifying for state by only a few inches. Appropriately, awards went to members of the state team. Randy Fox and Scott Herron were co-inspirational, and Ron Winn was voted captain. 3 ! 5 1 l Q - ' C SPRINTERS Row 1: Rick Little, Dwight Loewen, Rod Merrigan, Randy McGuffin, Brian Drouhard, Mark McCary, Ed Kefgen, Stuart Rush. More Courts, Please! Limited facilities proved to be the stumbling block for the tennis team. They completed a successful 7-3-1 season, but felt that more court space time for practice Would have improved individual records. More than half of last year's varsity team returned, -and promising freshman players turned out to add depth to the team. Casey Krug was this year's only state entrant, as the addition of Pullman to our district provided stiff competition. m1::-We 5, las' 1- .il- lf. Hearts of Love This year's Fall Festival started off with a bang when Miss Molly Calfee was crowned as the new Miss North Franklin. Her two reigning princesses are, first runner-up Miss Carolyn Krug, and second runner-up Miss Debra Chase. The girls were judged on scholastic ability, talent, poise, personality, and physical fit- ness. Then Molly advanced to the Washington Junior Miss Pageant where she represented the North Franklin District and obtained second rimner-up to the new Washington Jun- ior Miss, which is the farthest any Miss North Franklin has gone. We are all extremely proud of her. The royalty will be appearing in 16 pa- rades throughout the Northwest and Canada on the float themed Hearts of Love . They will also be honored guests at many banquets, as Tis 5 SE wmmm .M W Homecoming 1.972 The spirit of CHS was a smashing success during the 1972 homecoming week, The old fashioned day looked like a week in the mid-40's with everyone dressed with baggy pants and dancing to the Boogie, with the building dressed in purple and gold, Another spirited day was that of the tug of war. After many tries , with the rope breaking three times , the Freshman girls ended up being the win- ners, The competition was keen, for best spirit of the week, with seniors com- ing out victorious. Yet, altogether class participation was great and the spirit T rulexi supreme, Karla, Darla andl Trina show their strength, Did you Say this was 1973 ? ? ?
