WRESTLERS ARE NUMBER Eagles Climb to Top of State 's Best The Connell wrestling team has finally reached the N very top of the state power pyramid. Victory was sweet for the Eagles who for the last few years have consistently placed among the tournament leaders, but until this year have never brought home the State Wrestling Class A Championship trophy. There were no individual weight championsg the title was won rather through balanced strength and togetherness as the Eagles ran away with the team championship by amassing an all-time scoring record of 63 points. Adding to the excitement, Coach Lee Hall was awarded the Class A Wrestling Coach of the Year title. In regular season matches Connell ended with another winning season. Honors went to Kent Mackay and Eliazar Gonzalez, named co-captains, for their leadership and dedication, and to Kevin Jenks, two year state contender and inspirational wrestler. Six of Connell's ten state wrestlers are shown in regular and state mat action. It was the second year of state competition for Chico Mata, Kevin and Eliazar Gonzalez. All members had to first qualify at district and regional championships.
