OO Girls Vie For State Honors State honors were again the driving force behind the Girls' Basketball Team fantastic record, but this year the dreams could not quite become reality. In their first game at state, they pulled a 46 - 35 victory over Mount Lake Terrace. The next game against Ellensburgh, was lost in a close race, by 30 - 33. The consolation round pitted them against Garfield, to whom they lost 24 - 41. However, winning is not the important thing, it's how you play the game, and our girls did a fine job, for which they should be commended. Fans have not always been a thriving affair at the girls' games, but this year there was a pick-up in attendance. Hopefully, this will continue to grow in popularity, and attract even more fans. Special awards were hard to come by for the girls this year, as they all deserved to receive some- thing. Girls who were given honors were: Kathi Olson - Inspirationalg Becki Bongers and Julie Jenks - Co-Captains.

Sportsmanship -and Class Hea.d coach Darrell Seely described the varsity squad as possessing Hustle, determination, and a, great attitude. And because of these qualities, they were a good team and proved it by finishing second in District behind Colfax's fourth place State Tournament Team. ll Basketball takes a variety of skills to be a winner. Coach Seely, in his la.st year a.s head coach, added: CHS will miss the hot shooting of Clubfootg the rugged rebounding of Odom, the ball-handling of Persong the spirit of Empeyg and the long shots of Randall. However, big center Didier, reliable gua.rd Eppich, plus returning lettermen Booker, Cornely, Hansen and Erdman and a few new faces will carry on Connell's basketball tradition. The team helped warm the winter nights as the gym rocked with happy and wild fans. Although the refereeing was often questioned and the Eagles didn't always win, the players represented the school in the highest quality of sportsman- ship and class. E
