FACULTY What is the reward? Surely a powerful desire to learn binds the professor to academics. His pay is the simple opportunity to study. But together with the precious hours of study come the many hours of teaching, when the professor is no longer student, and when those who are students may be less eager to learn. The price of study is the ceaseless obligation to teach. Still, there is a final reward for the professor, a dividend as valuable as any. Among the student body will be an inevita- ble few, every year, who genuinely share the professor's commitment to learn. With such students, the professor need not be alone. The tireless task of teaching becomes a bond of cooperation and discovery between two similarly drawn; and one simply leads the other. Such moments must be as satisfy- ing as they are rare.
