In college, there is no one who excites and influ- ences the student more than a challenging profes- sor. What separates the good from the superior then? Is it pure knowledge? Perhaps it is the ability to articulate a difficult concept? Rather, we posit that it is one who is equally capable of infusing his students with the fire he feels for his subject without compromising his own professional integrity, communicating to them the necessity of integrating the personal with the critical. We believe that these expressions for meaningful exchange and encouragement of learning have been successfully promulgated by the careers of Eveline Omwake and James Baird at Connecti- cut College. With respect and appreciation we dedicate Koin 1977 to these superior professors.
