President Park in Academic Costume This volume will change its meaning almost more than any other volume in your library. As you open it for the first time it appears to be the vivid record of your most important years and dearest friends. Later, how much later I do not know, it will seem to be talking to you about people and institu- tions who existed in a simple and lovable world lying far behind you in an unreal haze. And, even later, it will become what it actually is, the substantial shadow of the events which were to make up your life. Looking at it in that mood you will feel like a great diviner seeing so clearly how each friend was bound to turn out, where each interest of yours had to lead. If coming events throw their shadows ahead, then the shadows cast in this volume are only possible because of the sun shining behind, and I hope the sun will always seem to you to be those good years at Connecticut College, of which Koine is the record. To the faculty, in gratitude tor the ideals, incentive, and inspiration which you have instilled in us, we the class of 1957 dedicate our yearbook. Through your counseling and the activities that you have so willingly shared with us, we have come 1o know you both inside and outside the classraom. Your standards and enthusiasm have become part of us; your friendship and encouragement have moulded our lives not only for the present but also for the future. We cannot fail to recall with pride and appreciation that you have been the guiding light behind the shadows that we have begun to cast upon the world around us.
