The methods were varied, the class- ifications two, as the ranks divided into library lovers or dorm devotees; the former curled up in carrells, sat placid amidst reserve room turmoil, crept turtively to the smoking room; the latter tried many approaches . . . cooperative efforts . . . hermit habits . silence shrouded concentration or music accompaniment . . . the formality of desk . . . the informality of notestrewn floor.
