MARY McKEE IMPARTS THE RUDIMENTS OF CHEMISTRY TO MAJORS IN THIS SCIENCE DR. EDWIN L. MINAR, JR., CHAIRMAN OF THE CLASSICS DEPARTMENT, INTRODUCES ANTIQUITY TO MODERN WORLD DEPARTMENT HEADS THE heads of the twenty-five academic depart- ments serve as advisors to the students who are majoring in their particular fields, carefully aid- ing them in the selection of courses, the under- standing of problems, and the integration of ma- terial. Students are invited to their homes for tea, coffee, and friendly discussions and quickly learn that a department head is a far cry from the cold, austere prototype. Assuming the responsibility of transfusing the open mind with intellectual alert- ness, they are always on call to guide the sopho- mores, juniors and seniors along the most direct path to a consummate college education. Alverna Bur- dick, dean of students, knows not only the aca- demic standing of each student but her social standing as well. Constantly barraged with such questions as: May I have an extra night?, How can I get off pro?, and Is there any chance of our getting the suite on second floor Harkness?, the dean is always armed with a straight-faced humor and an incredible insight which characterize her patient, thought-provok- ing answers. Her ability to correlate names, faces, majors, fathers professions, escorts, and recent illnesses is a source of never ending astonishment, and her keen understanding of the most personal problems is a source of everlasting admiration.
