ALVERNA BURDICK, Dean of Students We came as freshmen fearful of those stern faces behind the pulpits of the class rooms; we leave, as seniors, with the knowledge that the helping hand and the good advice of a professor will be a treas- ured memory. We know now that it was their enthusiasm which made us spend those added hours 1n that dull brown carrel. We know that it has been their ability to instill a deeply felt belief in the need for clear thinking, and a strong faith, which now gives us the courage to leave the realm of our formal education and to logk forward eagerly to our duties toward a war-torn world.

E thank you for the hearty handshake you gave us when we arrived four years ago. We thank you for your cheery smile that night in 39 when as Freshmen we placed a Christmas wreath on your door. We thank you for the friendly chats in front of your fireplace, for your ability to make cach of us feel as though we belongedfeel as though this hill top were our home. We thank you for the ever open door to your office, where our hopes were raised, and our worries dashed.
