She taught business education for 2 years at Rowe High School and 23 years at CHS following 2 years at Villa Maria Academy in Erie. PA. Mrs. Donnelly earned her BS degree in Business Education at Villa Maria College. She had taught shorthand, typing and accounting. Mrs. Donnelly, enjoyed teaching very much. It is frustrating at times, but it can also be a very rewarding experience.” She added that the highlights of her career were her students winning awards in various business contests. Over the years Mrs. Donnelly had been involved in Future Teachers of America, Business Club of CHS and graduation exercises. Mrs. Donnelly enjoyed the daily association with many nice young people. But, seeing her students develop skills and become independent workers was more satisfying. Her most tedious chore in teaching was proofreading reams of typing papers! Mrs. Donnelly's advice to students, do some studying EVERY day, participate in extracurricular activities, make the most of your years in school.” In retirement, Mrs. Donnelly plans to travel, read, golf, relax and spend as much time as possible outdoors. 6 and Mr. Tagle Retire After 29' i years of teaching, Mrs. Pitzer retired from CHS at the end of the first semester. She was granted retirement disability. During her career, Mrs. Pitzer taught English, speech and drama, grades 7-12. She was also involved in many extra-curricular activities. She, at one time, was in charge of Homecoming activities. As drama club advisor, Mrs. Pitzer directed several plays and musicals. Twelve years ago, she directed the musical Damn Yankees, which was also presented this year. She encouraged many students in the field of acting. Mrs. Pitzer earned her B.A. at Muskingum college in New Concord, Ohio, and her Masters at Edinboro University. Mr. Edilberto Tagle, special education teacher at CHS. retired after 36 years of teaching. Mr. Tagle taught for 17 years in the Philippines and 19 years in the United States, the last 14 of them in the Conneaut school system. From May, 194} until August, 1945 during World War II, Mr. Tagle was a guerrilla fighter against the Japanese in the Philippines. During his career in America, Mr. Ta- gle has taught special education to both elementary and high school students. Mr. Tagle mentioned that the most rewarding part of his career has been when the kids hold-and-keep-a job. The most tedious part has been the changes in the program.” Mr. Tagle earned his BSE at the Oriental Colleges in the Philippines, and his M.Ed at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. 7 DON BARKER — American Government, Computer Economics IRENE BAUGHER — Assistant Librarian LINDA BILLMAN — Learning Disabilities JOAN DONNELLY — Accounting, Shorthand, Typing JOY ESTOCK — Algebra I, Geometry, Pre-Geometry WILLIAM HALTER — American History, Sociology BETTY LOU HUMPHREY — Spanish MARY LOIS KANANEN — English, Latin DONALD KETCHUM — Librarian MICHAEL KIMMEL — Biology JACQUELINE LASHER — Foods, Special Occasion Foods, World Foods CHERYL MARKLEY — French GREG MASON — American Government, Current Government MARY MYERS — Art MARK NETZEL — Wood Industrial Arts 8 HENRY OGRODNICHEK — Audio Visual Coordinator CHARLES OTT — English WILLIAM PARKOMAKI — Contemporary Composition, English, Tattler JOHN PEASPANEN — Accounting, Business Law, Consumer Education, Retailing SHIRLEY P1TZER — English CHARLES KIESS — English substitute JOHN PLOSILA — English, Reading STEPHEN RHODES — Drama, English THOMAS RITARI — Occupational Work Experience Coordinator PAUL RULAND — Calculus, Geometry, Athletic Director CHRISTINA SEDLER — Consumer Education, Retailing, Typing GLENDA BETTERIDGF. — Business substitute DAVID SIMPSON — American History, Western Civilization MICHAEL SMITH — Biology, Chemistry. Scott Smith (98), Dennis Zilch (112), Trevor Baugher (132), Dan Curtis (145), and Bob Biggins (185) brought home the fourths following the one day tournament. Three Spartans qualified for the Regional. Mitch Trout at 138 pounds was accompanied by Esterer and Me Laughlin. Trout fell in the 'wrestle backs.' The 1985 Spartan baseball team had a lackluster season with a 2-12 NEC record. In the two Conneaut victories the Spartans were spoilers. CHS defeated Edgewood in mid-season which led to the Warriors' downfall. In the final game for the CHS baseball team. Conneaut dumped St.John to take the Heralds out of the running for the NEC title. Softball advances to district finals In 1985 the CHS girls' softball team was the defending NEC champ. Six seniors from the 17-3 (10-2 NEC) '84 team had graduated. In '85 seven seniors and some under-classwomen stepped in to fill the void, but they were unable to retain the NEC title. A 9-5 NEC record earned the team a fourth place. The NEC had become stronger. Behind the pitching of Heidi Litwiler and with the hitting of Litwiler, Stacey Cover, Carrie Ingramm and Beth Hoyt the team downed Edgewood 11-2 to win sectionals and Warren Western Reserve 6-1 to gain a spot in the district finals. A 1-3 loss to Niles in the district finals eliminated the softball team at 14-6 on the season under coach Charles Ott. Jackie Baird, Stacey Cover and Heidi Litwiler garnered first team honors in both the NEC and All-County. Candi Clough earned second team NEC and County. It was the most demanding schedule, as far as the caliber of opponents, stated coach Tom Ritari. Ritari played a lot of young people, four had no varsity experience.” On the three singles and two doubles teams, two of the regular starters were freshmen while one w'as a sophomore. The 1984-’85 CHS Student Council is no exception. The '84 Homecoming activities were organized and funded by the Student Council. Before Christmas, a 'need tree', decorated with mittens, caps, socks and scarves, helped some children of Con-neaut have a warmer winter. Student Council sponsored the successful production of Damn Yankees'. Coordination of the Red Cross Blood Mobile and student donors gave others the gift of life. Active participation by all of the students' at CHS enabled the 'council' to maintain the tradition. On Costa Rica, Kendra grinned, I'm going back there someday. Amy Laituri spent her '84 summer in the small village of Botsmark. Sweden through the AFS program. Amy's host parents, Dennis and Britta Karlsson, had two sons and a daughter. In addition to hiking, water-skiing and wind-surfing Amy also had a number of flights in an ultra-light plane. The primary objective of each program is to inform students about the system of government in our country. Each participant gets hands-on experience in politics, working at both the state and local levels. This mock government consists of two parties, the Federalists and the Nationalists. Each delegate is appointed to one of these parties and he or she actively campaigns for a political office of his or her choice. The positions available range from dog catcher to county coroner to state representative to governor. Various issues are debated and city laws are established by the elected office holders. The American Legion sponsored the one-week Buckeye Boys State. In the summer of '84 it was held at Bowling Green State University.
