Terry, Coach Gaukel??, P. Carney, P. Wheeler, P. Morano. The softball team had a very successful season this year. It captured it’s first outright NEC title in softball since the early 1970's, finishing with a 10-2 record, 17-3 overall. The team then went on to win Sectionals, in which it was the number one seed, and districts. It was the first CHS team in any sport to go to Regionals since the 1970 boys basketball team, and the very first in softball history. The team was ranked as one of the “Sweet 16” teams in the state tournament. Unfortunately, the team was beaten in Regional semi-finals. Eight out of nine starters were first or second team All-NEC. Selected for 1st team All-NEC and All-County were juniors Stacey Cover, and Heidi Litwiler, and senior Lynette Bort. Ann Terry was chosen for 1st team All-NEC and 2nd team All-County. Kim Daub and Barb Gamble were selected for 2nd team All-NEC. Candi Clough received 2nd team All-NEC and 1st team All-County. Paula Morano won 2nd team All-NEC and All-County. Honorable Mention All-NEC and All-County was awarded to Pam Wheeler. Heidi Litwiler was honored with the NEC and County Player-of- the-Year award for her outstanding pitching plus her other playing talents. Ann Terry was selected as the teams Most Valuable Player for her excellent defensive play. Coach Charles Gaukel was selected as the NEC and County Coach-of-the-Year, a very well deserved award. 112 Paula Morano Kim Daub Ann Terry — MVP Lynette Bort Barb Gamble Pam Wheeler Boys Finish 2nd in NEC!! Coach Ron Young hopes for an even better season next year, but it will be very hard to replace the six valuable seniors he lost this year. Mick Kehoe was selected for 1st team All-NEC and All-County. Bill Higley and Neil Usher were selected for 2nd team All-N EC and All-County. Coach Young was honored by receiving the Coach-of-the-Year award, Bill Higley, M.V.P.
