As youth of today work, think, and dream, we can be sure there are changes in the offing. If we could foresee the future and could delve deeply into the minds of youth—we know there are things with which they are not satisfied, but they will think seriously on these problems and will find the answers for them. Their answers will be new and different—but so will the world in which they live. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, Mr. Ladner Congratulations, graduate! You have entered a world of uncertainty and decision. I hope we have helped you to know yourself and to accept responsibility within your capabilities. Tennis 136 BEST GRIDDER SEASON On these pages is pictured the epitome of courage, loyalty and true Spartan spirit. This 1969 Football squad overcame great adversity to prove to their school and community that they had the will to win. Although the team was small in size and number, it can never be said that it was small in fight and guts. Throughout the season they never surrendered, they never really lost a game, they merely ran out of time. They were unified by the great pride of representing Conneaut. 1 as their coach can confirm that they did what many are afraid to attempt. It has been my pleasure to have been associated with each one. To each one I wish continued success in the future. Coach Ed Hartmann. 1st row: A. Pearce, H. Knight, F. Garcia, G. JOURNALISM CLASS 55 TATTLER STAFF IN ACTION Co-editors Becky Eagles and Greg Williams. “Lend me a ruler.” “Where’s an eraser?” “You took my pictures!” “Tomorrow’s our deadline!” “HELP!!!” Thus exclaim the mighty madmen of Room 17, while striving to edit the 1970 Tattler. Greg Williams and Becky Eagles were the co-editors; Carol Jus-sila and Stephanie Ansbro com-osed the Underclassmen pages, hyllis Harris, Bonnie Kraus, and Gloria Gleason joined forces to present the Activities and Senior sections. Becky Eagles and Karen Kleimo constructed the Introduction. Tom Scott, Pete Philley and Jeff Gross tallied in the field of sports, while John Damon took many candid pictures. Tom Yourchak, treasurer, supervised the advertising, and Miss Chartron kept everyone working. We appreciate the fine photography work by Mr. Blick and Mr. Tyler. The Juniors truly showed the spirit of Conneaut High School. They led and competed academically. In the football season several Junior boys took an active part. The girls cheered while everyone made spirit signs. Then came the class play. This production displayed talent, initiative, and originality: all stemming from the Juniors. In producing the play, the Juniors were also working hard for something else— they worked all year for the Junior-Senior From. Beginning in their Sophomore year, they strived with various projects. Some were service; some were entertainment; some w'ere just plain work. Every Junior must admit that all his work was fun. Indeed the Juniors had fun. They worked; they played; they kept Conneaut High School alive! 59 SPIRIT of 71 A TIME TO RULE CLASS OFFICERS: James Anthony, President: Stephanie Ansbro, Vice-President; Nancy Punkar, Secretary; Barbara Wiley, Treasurer. They strived beginning last summer to secure enough funds to make it financially possible. With the help of Mr. Rossetti, their class advisor, they planned committees, chairmen and workers. Most important, they represented their class and worked. 61 Mary Lou Anderson Stephanie Ansbro Jim Anthony Chet Arcaro Laureen Arbuckle Terry Armeni Jennings Bailey Judy Bailey Tom Baker John Ball Janice Barker Don Batdorf Charlotte Beeman Tom Bel nap Dennis Bcnnet Munch A Bunch of. . . Where afar over land or sea Or close at your door may the duty be. It calls for your service full and free. Take your place. Somewhere the world has bitter tears Your smile might dry; Somewhere the burden of doubts and fears, The hopeless sigh. There are steps that falter, weary, weak. For the strong, brave aim they vainly seek— Will you pass them by on the journey bleak? Take your place! Somewhere the world has a desert spot Your toil might till, Somewhere a life whose loveless lot Your love might fill. If the place that waits be high or low, Question not, cry not—onward go! The world's great battle needs every blow— Take your place. 95 David Edward Bailey Carol June Bartlett Patricia M. Bartone Robert J. Bearce LABOR DAY 1969 Probably all of this year's seniors noticed the warm feeling that came over them after having spent their last day of summer vacation by serving weary holiday motorists on Interstate 90. Labor Day 1969 was the time for the combined efforts of the members of the graduating class. For some, the day lasted from 5:30 AM, until 10J00 PM; but most worked a two hour shift on either the north or south side rest areas. A few dedicated people devoted two months of time for planning, fund raising, buying necessities, and running various errands. Approximately $100 of donations from service clubs, private citizens, and interested merchants made the project the success it was. Because of the dedication by our Senior Class to this worthy project, even business firms outside of our own community donated supplies. When our last summer vacation was over, all we had were memories, but in future years when we reflect on the hours we spent out on Interstate 90, we may have saved the life of someone we served. The banners are made of plywood and given two coats of enamel paint of its corresponding school’s color. They are trimmed and lettered in the same color and the background is of the other school hue. Chairmen were placed in charge of the different phases such as purchasing, designing, sawing and sanding, transporting, priming, printing, painting and finally mounting. Workers and talent appeared as the banners were begun during the first week of October. They were cut out at the school woodshop. Finally they were completed and again transported to the high school where mounting began by an extremely hardworking crew of senior boys. With one weekend left before basketball season, the project was completed. The banners really stood out in our gym. Dedication of our work came at the fall sport banquet. Truly a great accomplishment of a unified class. 105 Charles W. Jones Jim Jones Mark Allan Kauppila Roseann Juhasz Frederick W. I never believed that I would have such a great time; and I want to thank you very much for everything you gave me. If you live far from home, then you really find out what it means to have friends—and I had so many here in Conneaut. It is too soon that I have to go home, but I am sure that I will miss you very much. I'll remember you all, and I hope that 1 once can come back to meet you again. See you. 118 Bernie and Brenda discussed experiences in Switzerland. SWITZERLAND SUMMER ’69 was my destination as an Americans Abroad Student of the American Field Service. With the help of the Pfiffners in Nuss-baumen,' Switzerland, I experienced a new way of life, a new environment, and 1 became a member of a new family. With my 16 year-old sister, Esther, I went to school and met many Swiss young people. Fourteen year-old George and 10 year-old Dorothy also did nuch to make my visit more enjoyable. My Swiss parents and 1 discussed many aspects of both Swiss and American life. Through the places I went and the people I met, I gained an understanding of Swiss people and their way of life and a new understanding of the American people, myself in particular. Adapt and accept became the key words of my summer in Switzerland. These ideas pro- vided a basis for the tackling of such problems as difference in language, thoughts, and custom. Problems? We all have them. The secret in solving them is to profit by them. The mistakes I made were many, but I gained much practical experience while learning from them. 1 realized the truth that people are basically the same kind, understanding folks all over the world— even though they might think, talk or look different. I also acknowledged the fact that the success of my confrontation was the culmination of a sense of humor, an effort in self-discipline, and an implicit trust in God. The memories of my days in Switzerland and all the warm, wonderful people I met through A.F.S. will always be a part of me, and I consider myself honored to have had the fortune of such a rewarding experience. My hope is that I may in some small way have helped to forward the cause of international understanding in the universal quest of peace on earth. To all of those who were such an inspiration and help to me in this exciting venture, I say: Vielen Dank fur allesl Brenda and Esther rest during a busy day. 120 SENIORS PRESENT, A DIFFERENT DRUMMER oo-oo.aa-aa.oobladee oobabdeeba ee-ee!’’ Hey!
