At 10:30 a.m., September l9, seniors decked in plaid shirts and jackets with ridiculous hats perched on their heads at precarious angles, cranked their cars, raced out of the parking lot, and headed for the Girard Community Park for the traditional Senior Chestnut Hunt. Soon after, they descended upon the bewildered food committee boister- ously demanding to be fed. However, with the pangs of star- vation knawing at their stomaches they were callously turned away and forced to wait until ll:30. Lunch consisted of potato chips, baked beans, hot dogs with all the trimmings, ice cream cake and pop. When everyone had eased his hunger out came the football. The girls proceeded with ease to win the game from the boys with a score of l2-0. After the game everyone headed for the pavillion for a gentler type of entertainment of dancing to re- cords . Three o'clock marked a move toward the cars and a slower trip home. Even though the Seniors failed to find the elusive chestnut, they still had loads of fun. The committees were: Food Committee, Bob Ritari, jim Drombroski, Ron Coxon, Bill Skippon, Theresa DiPlacido, Sue Davison, Paula Maukonen, Carmen Bertone, Elsa Ciccone, Carol Bertone, and Ruth Forsty. Transportation, Ron Northrup and Di ck Strine . Chaperones for the Hunt were: Mrs Reichert, Mr. Macmillan and Mrs. Miller. .1 as Vik V IE Class Da V Dun :nes rw' K . '7 Wx LJ 5? And we're off. . . V 5 f D. . . ff ff J We Shook the Pamil Tree We Shook the Family Tree, a three-act comedy presented by the Senior class, opened the High School's theater season on Nov 14,15 and l6. The -story involved a certain teenager, Hilde- garde Dolson, fMarlene Randallj, who with only a few days left before the Prom and still no date , decided to use a bit of drastic action to get one. She entered the school debate and gave a dra- matic speech on prohibition, making everyone believe that her father, QDavid Macmillanj, was the alcholic of whom she spoke. Rumors spread quickly and Mr. Dolson's boss the banker, fRoss Greggj, and his wife, CKathryn Brookhouserj, getting wind of the situation at the Dolson home, decided to investigate the situation. In the meantime, Mother, fSue Davisonj, had gotten her finger in the pie by asking Freddie Sherrner, fDavid Olmstedl, the banker's son, to be Hildegarde's date. He had agreed and it wasn't until later that Mrs . Dolson found out from Hildegarde that he always wore short pants, an unforgivable sin. By that time Hildegarde was really having trouble and her sister, Sally, Uean McDowelll, and brothers Bob, QT om Hylandj, and jimmy, CCharles Freidnerl, had succeeded very nicely in getting her into more hot water. Before the final curtain Paige Mason. fTheresa Di.PlacidoJ, Ellie-May, fPaula Maukonenj, and jill, fSally Rositerf, managed to add to the general confusion, but all ended happily with Fred- die fin long pantsj, and Hildegarde leaving for an evening at the Prom. The mood of this play is established with remarkable skill and while it is charged with exciting moments, it is a perfect back- ground for a love story that is as simple as it is appeal- ing. The character of Death is for the most part a very human sort of person. Death Takes A Holiday is a play that arouses thought, stimulates discussion, and presents a novel and optimistic philosophy on the prob- lems of love and death. The cast was composed of the members of the Thespian Society and the Dramatics Club. The skill- fully designed set was planned and constructed by joe Hassler, with the aid of Club members. The prompter was Theresa DiPlacido and the script girl was Irene Biggins . Greater speed and hitting power spelled the difference as Conneaut romped over Ashtabula, 33-0, at Ashtabula in the season opener for both teams . Conneaut capitalized on long runs as they outgained the losers both on the ground and in the air. After a slow start the Trojans finally moved their offense into high gear in the second game. Fine ball han- dling helped to trample Warren St. Mary's, 26-7. The first-half passing and work of quarterback Bill Lacey and the hard charging of the Conneaut line accounted for the Trojans' third straight victory of the season. Playing on their home field they ran up an early lead and then held on to topple Cleveland St. Stanislaus, 26-12 . ' a , ' i . M ' sf'-.met ...fi .Mfg . ' Conneaut limited Geneva to one first down and a net yardage gain of only 24 yards as they easily won their fifth game of the season, 26-0. The final home crown was treated to a display of L charging defense. The Trojans traveled 120 miles to Carrollton, Ohio, to spoil their homecoming and three-year, 19-game winning streak. Conneaut notched victory number six for the 1956 season, 14-O. Excellent spirit was the main factor for victory in this big game. The Trojans rode to a l2-6 victory over Fairport on the sturdy shoulders of fullback Bill Skippon, at Fairport. Skippon paced the Trojans to their seventh win of the season with display of running power. The hard fighting Trojans won their biggest game of the season when they defeated the highly-ranked Cleveland St. joseph's, l8-0. There were many outstanding plays but it was indeed a team victory for the undefeated Trojans . The line displayed superb charging, and Jim Dombroski was the outstanding back. The Trojans added a spectacular finish to one of their finest seasons in history. They completed an undefeated, untied season with a 7l-0 trouncing of Painesville.
