If WNOW THIS .IS THE CAPTAIN SPEAKING... , . l CONFLICTYS deployment to the western Peeifie for these nine months has been a busy and GXCiti11g adventure. Together, We faced the vicious attacks of the Viet Cong insurgents, we blocked his attempts to replenish his forces in South Vietnam, we swept live mines to y render the 'seas safe for the passage of our own forces, and We beat back the ful-ies of the elements. During more pleas ant interludes, we visited Pearl Harbor, Jolmston Island, I Kwajalein, Fiubic Bay, Da Nang, Qui Nhon, Vung Tau, An Thoi, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Naha, Sasebo, Yokosuka and Midway Island. It has been a time of great personal and professional growth for all of us, and the officers and crew have assumed increased responsibility with their growth. I The end of this deployment also marks the end of my tour as Commanding Officer. It I has been'a tremendously enriching experience for me, personally and professionally. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve with such an outstanding fraternity of fellow y seamen, and it is with the greatest pride that I have watched their excellence bring to CONFLICT the splendid reputation she enjoys.
