Growing Population Constantbf Changes The School The Physical Education program at Conestoga Valley is vastly improving each year. The elementary curriculum has been re- vised in all the schools because of the new gym at Smoketown. With this new program at the elementary level a new staff member was also added. Added to the high school were needed fields to compose a more complete and up dated program. A new varsity sport, boys' gymnastics, has also been made available be- cause of the new vaulting horse and new boys' parallel bars. Drivers' Education and Practice Driving Programs are con- stantly striding forward to give students an increasing knowledge of drivers' safety. With the increase of the schoo1's population, the inside driver ed classes have become larger and an increasing- ly higher demand for outside driving has arisen. But even with the use of two new Fords, ithe ability to meet the outside driving demand is hindered by other responsibilities of Mr. Ueberroth and Mr. Souders. H omemakers And Industrial Workers Endeavor To Prepare For Their Future The major aim of the home economics department at Conestoga Valley is to help the student obtain a richer and fuller home life. The department tries to involve as many areas of home living as possible in a four year period. A different approach in the World of Foods course, this year, is for students to work in individual groups with guidelines set by the instructor. Awards for outstanding work are given at Commencement by the Upper Leacock Woman's Club and the Lion's Club. The Industrial Arts Program is a general preparation for students, giving them a better background in the mechanical fields. The IA de- partment here at Conestoga Valley includes Wood Shop, Metal Shop, Graphics, Mechanical Drawing and Design, and Architectural De- signing and Drafting. The benefits reaped by students in the Industrial Arts program are the acquisition of knowledge in the world of industry, the obtaining of skill in activities related to industry, and the development of an appre- ciation for craftsmanship. Awards are given by the department to one student from each grade level for outstanding craftsmanship in woodwork. Students also com- pete for the Stanley Award given for outstanding workmanship in wood. The award is given by the Stanley Tool Company.
