History Is A Thing of The Present Composed of mostly veteran teachers, this department is constantly bringing history alive for the modem student. History teachers keep students informed about past and current events. Keeping history from being a thing of the past is one of the many aims of the history depart- ment. These teachers work hard to give the students a knowledge of the history of peoples all over the world from ancient times to the pres- ent day. American history is taught in the ninth and tenth grades. In a stu- dent's third year at C.V.H.S., the field is broadened and cultures of the peoples of the world are stressed. Economics and problems of democra- cy are the two standard courses taught to all seniors at Conestoga Val- ley. In addition to these courses, this year, the history department offers African history and twentieth-century history. These courses are of- fered every three years. Also this year the history department has begun a new independent study elective for students who display exceptional ability. In this group the students work on their own and receive full credit. Development Of Basic Business Skills In The Growing Commercial World Many students prefer a wide field of experience in the practice cours- es offered by the Business Education program. The curriculum prepares business students for application of skills in employment upon gradua- tion. Experience is offered to many students in the operation of the school store which serves the student body and exposes operators to the business world. Teachers now have students to help ease their work load and give the students first hand application of skills as secretaries. The Business Education program prepares students with the use of new equipment in the development for wide range commercial employ- mem.
