Diamond Men Build or uture The Conestoga Valley baseball team started the season under the leadership of first year coach Glenn Banner. The team was hurt by heavy graduation with only three returning starters, Rick Steffy, Tim Treier, and jack Snader. Though optimis- tic and enthusiastic, the team was plagued by misfortune almost from the outset. Winning their first game over Pequea Valley 4-3, the team was then hit by two injuries which hurt them for the rest of the season. Though they never gave up, the team finished the season 1-11, with two heartbreaking one-point losses at the end of the season. However, since five sophomores and three juniors saw varsity action this year, their experience should greatly help next year's team. Ups And Downs Mark 1971 Girls, Tennis Season The girls' tennis team, under the direction of Mrs. Diane Hogg, ended the season with a disappointing 4-7 record. With only two top starters retuming, the team was inexperienced. Charlotte Phillips and Linda Newswanger, who took first place in the county doubles compe- tition, led their team to victory' in the season opener against Penn Manor with a score of 4-5. The rest of the season was filled with ups and downs ending in a 0-7 loss to McCaskey. Millie Stoltzfus and Heather Smith will retum as the only experi- enced players for the 1972 season. With Millie as the only upperclass- man and with the lack of experience of the underclassmen, the 1972 season will be a season for rebuilding. Oppaxiu - With great determination to win this match, Millie Stoltzfus approaches the ball for a retum shot. Below - Row I: H. Smith, T. Barbaxito, K. Knerr, L Newswanger, M. Stoltzfus, B. Herr, C.
