Girls Place H i gh In Competitive League Even though injuries plagued the CV girls' basketball team, they ended their successful season with a record of 7-3, placing third in the league. Early in the year, the injuries of Karen Van Hekkcn and Carol Godshall cut the eight man varsity squad to six. Karen Reinfried filled in and played the remaining games with the other four starters: Beth Wentz, Gina Tsoucalas, Heather Smith, and Sharon Murray. The team, coached by Sandra Cobes, got off to a shakey start losing three of its first six games, but came back strongly winning its last 'four games. Captain ,Beth Wentz, and Gina Tsoucalas were the team's high scorers - Wentz averaging 20 points per game, Tsoucalas, 15 points per game. The varsity, however, were not the only successful ones. The ,IV team ended its season with a 9-1 record, placing first in thej'V league. Sophomore, Jill Carson, was consistantly the high scorer with a 12 point per game average. Although only one starter will graduate, the loss of senior Beth Wentz will hurt next year's team. Wentz has been a starter and high scorer during her four years of high school. However, the strong JV team and the talents of the other four starters should compensate for this loss. Opparite - Taking careful aim, Gina Tsoucalas makes her shot good for two points. Two Wins Highlight Novices' Season For the first time this year Conestoga Valley had a men's gymnastics team in league competition. Unlike most first year teams, the men of Cones- toga Valley enioyed two wins, ending their season with two wins and ten losses. Seniors and co-captains of the men's team were Mike Fritz and Mike Huskins. Below kj? - Perfect form is displayed by Mike Huskins in this difficult routine on the rings.
