THE WASHINGTON TRIP One of the high-lights of our senior year was our class trip to Washington, D. C., on November 14. Sixteen of the most educational, interesting, and enjoyable hours were packed into this unseasonably spring-like day. CThe only thing unspring-like about it was the absence of the cherry blossoms.J Our tours through the various government build- ings and monuments honoring several of our Presidents served greatly to increase our understanding of the function- ing of our Federal Government and our appreciation of the men who have contributed so magnificently to the cause of freedom. The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was likewise an inspiring experience. The excursion provided moments which captured prac- tically all the diversified fancies of the class members. At the Smithsonian Institute the girls looked wistfully through the thick glass at one of their best friends, the Hope Dia- mond. The Washington Monument's 555W feet of height were certainly employed to the best advantage by our ath- letes who ascended it via its 898 steps and by the scientists who experimented with Newton's Law of Gravitation by --- from the top of that structure. Neither were the nature lovers disappointed for the city's various parks af- forded an abundance of squirrels and pigeons to feed and observe. We were extremely grateful to our chaperones-Mr. Rill, Mrs. Loar, Mr. Gottschall, and Mr. DiGiacomo for making this delightful trip possible. seventy-two
