CLASS HISTORY September. 1976. was the beginning of an era: a date marked forever in the history of the graduating class of 1979. The alumni of Valley Forge and T E Junior High Schools congregated in the auditorium for our first of many “targe days to come. As sophomores, we kicked off the three year period with a bang. With the aid of our class advisor. Mr. Barr, we planned and executed our first big fund raiser, the sophomore car wash. Our participation in the Homecoming festivities was also a hit. Under the theme of “Two Hundred Years from Now, we produced the first “Bionic Family in a skit narrated by Peter Thompson. Although Conestoga's football team was defeated by arch-rival Radnor with a score of 24-17, our pride was our attractive homecoming court, consisting of Mary Kate Dempsey, Joanne Flynn, Jeanne MacFarlane, Brian Holland. Bruce Mattis, Mark Trudel, and Mike McConnell. Our junior year earned us a standing at “The Big C.“ The theme of “movies led us to the construction of a gigantic paper-machS wizard in our version of The Wizard of Oz, with the concentrated efforts of Brenda Williams, Paul Murray, and John Bratschi. Characters of the skit were played by Bryan Rider. Lee Kanter, Sue Key. Mary Huhn, Ann Granat, Jill Smith and Cindy Rowland. The Homecoming court consisted of Jeanne MacFarlane. Mary Kate Dempsey, Joanne Flynn. Mike McConnell. Mark Trudel, Bruce Mattis, and Brian Holland. The class officers for 1977-1978, Nancy Youman, Kevin Dooley, Ann O'Shaughnessy, and Missy Adams, along with our new class advisor, Mr. Montgomery, led us to a very prosperous year at Conestoga. The success of Cabaret can be greatly attributed to the entertainment, which included highlights such as the hilarious “Short People, the sensational Chorus Line hit “One. and the Masters of Ceremony, Kevin Dooley and Peter Thompson. A spaghetti dinner and dessert was served during the performances. Our junior year ended with many pleasant memories of the junior prom. Planned by Karen Lindquist, the prom was held at the King of Prussia Holiday Inn on April 14, 1978. We partied and danced the night away to the theme of Billy Joel's “I Love You Just the Way You Are. Last, but certainly not least, we entered the final phase of high school: our senior year. Elections from our junior year enhanced us with class officers Dave Snowe, Paige McLarnon. and Jon Tucker. Homecoming 1978processed the best senior float of six years past. Under the theme of Decades, the seventeen foot tissue-papered King Tut was organized and designed by Nancy Ashworth and Paul Murray. The highlights of the pep rally, held on November 21, were the crownings of the Homecoming queen and king. Joanne Flynn and Mark Trudel. The rest of the court included Jeanne MacFarlane, Mary Kate Dempsey, Bruce Mattis, and Brian Holland. The sensational Senior Variety Show. Showtime '79, was held on November 3 and 4 and filled our treasury wth $2.000. Organized by Bryan Rider and Jamie Staargaard. it exhibited great talents in acts such as “Yesterday , Saccharin Madness, and “The Czech Brothers. The MC's were Kevin Dooley. Ellen McGurk. and Peter Thompson. Memories of the Senior Prom, held on June 8, 1979 at Westover Country Club, career elective, senior week. Baccalaureate, and graduation on June 14, 1979, will remain in our minds forever as our wonderful teenage years. As we look back on our days at “The Conestoga Countryclub, we will remember all of our many trials and tribulations, new experiences and unrelivable memories. With all of these behind us, we look forward to “pioneering our future lives and dreams. By Marianne Fulwider
