Mrs. Toth Mrs. Tucker We, the class of 1977, dedicate this yearbook to our class advisors: Mrs. Toth, Mrs. Tucker and Mr. McConnell. We appreciate all the time they have devoted to making our senior year so memorable. Mr. McConnell light the corners of my mind. 3 V Of the way we were 6 Scattered pictures 13 14 Class History As we try to put our class history on paper, we realize each one of us could write our own, highlighting certain points and adding our own happy and sad times. Still there are certain moments which will stand out in each one's mind. Our story together began at Conestoga High School on Wednesday, September 4, 1974. As new sophomores, we didn't waste any time getting involved. Lisa Cvetic played the leading role in the October drama production, My Sister Eileen. The Homecoming Game found us creating a Popeye float and watching an exciting football game against Radnor, which we won 24-21. Our court was comprised of Julie Brown, Julie Clewett, Lynn Nolan, Duke Lee, Bob Braham and Steve Christianson. One unusual event occurred when our schools opened and closed a half hour later in an effort to save fuel. This was surpassed in uniqueness during our senior year when all the schools in Pennsylvania were closed suddenly for three days during a very cold spell. Our class officers Bob Braham, Kirk Albrecht, Stacy Sempier and Rick Moon led us through a very successful Junior year, also. We again won our Homecoming Game against Lower Merion, 24-7 and our float of the Roaring Twenties was well-received. Our court this year included Diane Reger, Julie Brown, Julie Clewett, Jim Durante, Duke Lee and Jim Shute. In November, the Sound of Music was performed and was a huge success. Our Cabaret, planned by Marilyn Blumenthal, Phyllis Sedlacek, Rick Moon and Kirk Albrecht, proved to be a good money-making scheme and at the same time a lot of fun. Our junior prom at the Holiday Inn will bring back many memories and was well-organized by Loretta DiMarcan- tonio. The band went to Florida during Easter week, which was a great reward for all their hard work. During our sophomore year the band traveled to Atlanta and this year they went to Niagara Falls. Our sports teams, as usual, provided a great deal of excitement during the 1975-1976 year. The football team won the Triple Crown and the basketball team played at the Palestra, as they did in the 1976-1977 year. Finally, everyone will remember the noble effort to sell all the phone directories before the closing of school. Our senior year officers were Richard Connolly, Kirk Albrecht, Leslie Bobb and Rick Moon. The fall of 1976 found us busy with the Car Wash and Pancake Breakfast. Everyone will surely remember the Senior Variety Show where Penny Bennett's dress ripped during the performance of a Fifth of Beethoven, the Disco Ducks waddled across the stage in yellow costumes and Harry Ong gave everyone a lot of laughs when he did his monologue on Driver Ed. teachers. The Homecoming Game was a disappointment in itself because we lost to Radnor, but our successful float entitled Space Wagon and the crowning of Amy Hayward as queen and Duke Lee as king made it worthwhile. Other members of the court were Julie Brown, Julie Clewett, Tony Cecco and Tom Harris. The performance of Godspell, with Drew Murdock playing Jesus Christ, will stand out in everyone's mind as a true accomplishment. Drew Haldeman, Duke Lee, and Joe Haddon made fashion history with their Mohawks. All of Conestoga was in for a shock when the drug raid was made public and the Conestoga Connection became public knowledge. Despite the fact that this made big news for several weeks, we realize, in perspective, the problem was minor. Our final days as seniors were indeed hectic as some of us went our separate ways for Career Electives and then all returned for the prom at the Westover Country Club and Baccalaureate at the Daylesford Abbey. Finally, com- mencement came on June 16, 1977 at Teamer Field. As we look ahead with high hopes, we also think back, fondly, of laughter, tears, good times and bad we've all shared together. 18 Senior Executive Council ROW 1: M. Hirsch, S. Sempier, S. My deepest secrets have been aired And I know that you cared because you always trusted me. But now you're gone; I'm all alone. Why did God take you? No more smiles, no more parties, no more music for you. But really I'm the one who loses out; you're gone. In keeping with their fondness to taste things ger- maine to the Fatherland, the club dines at numerous German res- taurants and prepares seasonal events such as traditional tree decorating at Christmas and a fasching party before Lent. Halloween Once again the student body returned to their childhood by dressing up in costumes on the Friday before Halloween. This is the second annual Halloween Day which Cones- toga has held. It was organized by Tom Calla- han who also emceed the contest which was held during fifth period. Among the top winners were Buffy Murray in her catapiller costume, and Ted Grosholz, Mike Rosato, and Chuck Wright who imitated ladies of the evening. Overall, the event was very enter- taining. FBLA Future Business Leaders of America FBLA is a national youth organization for all secondary stu- dents enrolled in business education programs. The club is designed to help business students prepare for entry into busi- ness and office occupations. There are over 150 chapters orga- nized in Pennsylvania, involving over 6,000 members. Mem- bers learn how to engage in individual and group business- operated enterprises; how to hold office and direct the affairs of the group; how to work with representatives of other youth organizations; and how to compete honorably with other FBLA members on the local, state, and national levels. It also provides an opportunity for travel to state and national conferences, visits to other chapters and business enterprises, and close contact with successful businessmen and women. 96 ROW 7: A. A daily deposit is made of all incoming funds and many checks are written to meet the expenditures of the various club and activity functions. The members of the Banking Club handle much responsiblity with great care and exactness. Membership in the Banking Club is limited to a very few students who are trustworthy and willing to work every seventh period of the school day. S. Rickets, M. Reed. Each year a major work or produc- tion is performed in February. This year, because of the energy crises it had to be canceled. The music selected was performed at the Spring concert, however. In addition to the three sched- uled school programs, an attempt is made to have the choir sing at some outside institution such as a local church or a musical convention. SOPRANO SECTION-ROW 7. P. Homecoming 1976 Much excitement surrounded this year's homecoming events. While our football team struggled valiantly, we were overcome by the Radnor Raiders. But this was the only flaw in a rousing evening. Opening festivities featured the annual float Senior Court competition between classes. The theme was the future, but as happened so often in the past, the seniors grabbed first place. All three presentations were well done. More joyous shouts abounded during half-time at the announcement of Duke Lee and Amy Hayward as Homecoming King and Queen. Fittingly, the evening reached its peak in a spectacular performance of sight and sound by the Marching Show Band. LEFT, TOP TO BOTTOM: Tom Harris, Tony Cecco, Julio Brown. Godspell The production of Godspell which was performed at Conestoga on the evenings of the 16th, 17th, 19th, and the 20th of November was a terrific success because of the hard work and sacrificed time which everyone gave, along with the full house which was present at every perfor- mance. To Mr. Ralph Miller of Ram Three Limited, who along with his valuable time donated all the necessary materials to help make Godspell all the success it was, and to our own Dr. Hayes we give thanks for overseeing the tremendous production. From 10 to 3 in the girl's gym, the Wayne Paoli branch of the Ameri- can Red Cross collected 80 pints from over 100 students, faculty members, and parents who signed up. We wish to thank these people who gave their time to donate blood. In return, they received coverage for their family or church. The girls spent many weeks to make it the suc- cess it turned out to be. Organizing the Bloodmo- bile involves a lot of publicity to recruit people, sending four students to a student Bloodmobile seminar in Philadelphia, and the responsibility of providing enough refreshment for the donors. Critical and evaluative skills are sharpened as the staff members discuss the merit of the poems, short stories, essays, plays and artworks which have been submitted. Later in the year, the staff members also gain expertise in the technical aspects of magazine design and production. The culmination of this year long activ- ity is the publication of Ninsun. Newspaper The SPOKE, the voice of Cones- toga's student body, informs the students about current events and issues that affect their student life. Capturing the uniqueness of our school is barely possible in the limited pages we have; a few wonderful things may have missed our lens or pens, but we sincerely feel we have caught the essence of 1976-1977 at Conestoga.
