CONEMAUGH VALLEY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL HISTORY Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital is a non- profit, general hospital located in I ohnstown, Pennsyl- vania. Johnstown, an industrial community of approxi- mately 60,000, is located 70 miles east of Pittsburgh and 120 miles west of Harrisburg. C onemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital was estab- lished and incorporated in December 1889 with funds contributed by the peoples of the world. It is a mem- orial to the victims of the flood and to the beneficence extended to the people of the Conemaugh Valley in time of disaster. In 1892 the name of the corporation was changed from C onemaugh Valley Hospital to Conemaugh Valley Memorial H ospitalf' The hospital has provided service since 1892. The main division accommodates 500 patients. With the acquisition of the Windber Division in 1970 and the South Wing in 1971, the total bed capacity is 776. C onemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital is approved by the I oint Commission an Accreditation of Hospitals and the Pennsylvania State Board of Medical Educa- tion and Licensure and is a member of the American Hospital Association, Hospital Association of Penn- sylvania, and Hospital Council of Western Pennsyl- vania.
