1896-1971 SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS HAVE PASSED For seventy-five years, Conemaugh Valley Mem- orial Hospital School of Nursing has measured up to the unique characteristic of the diamond - strength and brilliance , Our predecessors had a courageous- ness, a sense of purpose, and a dedication that have permeated through the decades to motivate us to our present stature. The school of nursing and the graduates are the products of more than a half-century of change. We, in the twentieth-century, have it all - knowledge ex- plosion, miraculous scientific and technologic advances, space exploration, sociologic impact and a new look at health care. Health care has become a right rather than a pri- vilege. As a result, those of us committed to the health professions are challenged to find the best and most appropriate way to deliver this care. The seventies are upon us and people are our focus. We must find the not-too-easy answers to con- cerns within nursing. We are no longer an island un- to ourselves. Like many disciples, we must examine our professional role and patterns of education. Nurs- ing practice is donning a new look in a new environ- ment, with new knowledge and skills and with fewer specific answers to many questions and concerns. Of one thing we can be certain, change is occurring. Our profession's future depends upon scientific inquiry, creativity, innovation, flexibility and a deep regard for our fellow men.
